Only a shade under 30 miles today, thanks to a painfully long wait at the pub for our lunch - an hour and half between arriving and settling the bill. I'm off out again soon so had to cut the ride short and come straight home. :cursing:

A little tootle to Otley.Did not go out till 11-30,i cut next doors lawns and did some weeding.
But i decided to see if i felt better, well going out was a bit crap slow and laboured but after two lattes and a bacon sarnie i creamed it coming out of Otley, superb.
Now i may have worked out what is going on,my hip joints are aching, back in 2003 i was told i had the beginnings of osteoarthritis and i can feel something different and my left hip aches,so i will keep an eye on this.

A nice 'stop me going stir crazy' hour on my hybrid (which has sat in pieces in the shed for 9 months so a quick re-assemble required)...same route as last week, cinder tracks, round the old brickpits, a mass of small and huge lakes and ponds, tracks going here and there...all in the sun and a light breeze, lovely. Hardly a soul around and no cars to deal with.
Heard two cuckoos, alternately calling. I knew one was nearby, slowed as I approached some trees, to see him flit off from a branch maybe 15 yards away. makes me realise how little ive been out, they're the first ive heard this year.
Just an hour, pedal then coast, pedal then coast, just to stretch the legs. Still feel unable to really fill the lungs. CT scan on Monday, sometimes I fear this year is going to be a write off, and then I think, so what...so i'm having a steady year where the bike and fitness isn't the be all and end all. Sometimes the fitness is actually a millstone round your neck, either the loss of it, or the fear of losing it.
Its a mental battle sometimes...todays ride reminds me the pleasure cycling gives you.

just done my first 40miler in about a decade, Lancaster to beyond Barbon, via fellfoot lane* and back via a slightly different route (only slightly).

*couldn't put the fellfoot lane detour on the google map

It's also my first big ride this year, and first big ride on my new wheels and fat slick tyres. Did the first 16 miles in an hour and five minutes... well chuffed, specially since 'speed' isn't something i aim for (it's an MTB!)... it was only on the way back did i realise just how much help the wind must have given me... the same 16 miles took closer to two hours!

The weather man said it was going to be warm and sunny so Mrs Aud and myself decided to visit a Tea room we have never been to. It meant a small 18 mile loop but that suits Mrs A anyway.

Can anyone tell me what the white wild flowers are?

Great ride across the Somerset countryside.

The Tea rooms are in a strange place off the tourist trail, but very good.http://www.dorothystearoom.co.uk/

Last night was the FNRttC, so time to get June's 100 miler on the board nice and early.
Starting off from Hyde Park Corner as usual, about 70 souls made the journey through the night to Whitstable in Kent. Temperatures never dropped below 12 degrees so positively balmy. Short sleeve and shorts weather.
Check out the FNRttC Whitstable thread in CC&Informal ride section of the forum for reports and pics from others about the ride.

So, Weekend #10 of my 100+miler a week challenge and the 10th, 100+ miler.
138.35 miles the Garmin read,

Twas also my 14th 100+ miler of the year.

Roll on next weeks #11.
Going to try keep this going for as long as possible. Though I originally scheduled 12 weeks in a row.

Macclesfield to Castleton (and back). Used Bikehub suggested "quiet" route. Good in parts, disastrous in others. I really should have checked it beforehand. Off-road on the road bike was excruciatingly slow. Also some of the suggested route appeared to be a footpath so the bike had to be carried across stiles. Other parts of the route were quite clever. Arrived slightly frazzled.

Attempted the Winnats Pass climb. Miserable failure. Came home by a much more direct route. Treated myself to a descent of the Brickworks climb. Enjoyed waving to the "climbers" going up.

Too many hills. 42 miles, 4500ft ascent. Cream crackered.

Lots of KiloToGo signs about...

Saturday June 1st 2013. Took my 10 year old son for his first 'BIG' ride to Helston on his new 5 speed Raleigh and me on my 6 speed Brompton, he has done 8 miles before but this was to be 14 miles round trip, up early as it was promising to be a glorious sunny day, we had a rucksack with chocolate and spring water and a spanner for the seat post and a mobile phone(charged up)! These lanes around my village are so quiet, didn't see .a soul except for a nicotine coloured Jack russel with a lot to say for himself..Helston when we got there was again deserted, think everyone was at the beach..now theres an idea!..Breakfast and coffee in Sainsburys and then Home, neither the Raleigh nor the Brompton had a high enough gear for 3 of the hills, both of us stood out of the saddles trying really hard but ended up pushing:smile:. The fields along this valley were covered in Buttercups almost too bright to look at, and I just had to get the second photo to share here in Cyclechat.
