I was away by nine, having decided a ride to Delamere forest and back was on the cards in this wonderful sunshine. It was great to feel the warmth and to be able to wear shorts, 107 km covered.

Complaint about your driver

Saturday 20th April 14.45

Corner of ham road Worthing junction / cross roads

I was cycling on my side of the road taking a position to turn right at the upcoming lights.

Your coastliner bus driver drove at me on the wrong side of the road expecting me to pull over and take what I considered to be a dangerous position for me…in fact there was nowhere to go due to a car on my inside.

He had his window down and a conversation took place. He said I deliberately blocked him as he had to overtake parked cars. I informed him he should read the Highway Code and it puts an obligation on him not to overtake parked cars unless it is safe to do so and there is no oncoming traffic…me.

He then called me a ‘w****r’ and an ‘a******e’ and claimed I had deliberately blocked his path. I told him that what he was in effect saying was that he would rather knock me over than hit a parked car. He then told me that I was lucky he was a bus driver because otherwise he would come and ‘sort me out’.

Frankly this type of driver is a danger to cyclists, his driving was bad enough but his attitude to me and the language he chose to use were not warranted, or in keeping I am sure with the bus company’s expectations of their drivers.

This driver was probably in his late 50’s early 60’s, male, and driving a single Decker bus.

He went on to say that I was the one holding up traffic, when in fact had he been driving sensibly and with respect for my life the incident would not have occurred. Furthermore had he not called my offensive names the conversation could have been passed off with an apology from him.

He told me he had a camera running. I would like you to run the film and see him using offensive language to me.

Please let me know ASAP your comments.

Had intended to get up early and do a 20-mile loop of Quinton-Romsley-Kings Heath. Overslept to midday again. :cursing:

Settled for a blast out to the shops and will try to get out for an hour later. Tomorrow won't be nearly as nice and I've got other things to do.

30-something miles in the sunshine for coffee and cake. Wonderful to be sitting outside drinking coffee at half nine in the morning. Even nicer when breakfast #2 is cake. Then drove down to Tiverton with a friend to register for tomorrow and walked the dogs up on Haddon Hill having done a recce for the first part of the ride. Took a short cut across the hill to avoid walking all the way down to the lake and then back up ... legs now covered in scratches. Dog and I will be having a tick inspection later. xx(

just a quick ride in the sun to test the new wheels/cassette & chain out. seemed ok/good. it started off with me leaving my OH behind on every climb we encountered () but in all fairness he is not feeling great, however, I kept finding I had to slow down for him (this is a revelation!). Then just before our favourite descent (out of Acton Bridge to the A49) we caught a tractor up and were not able to overtake it until part way down the descent until we were waved around and thanked for our patience. From there it was a short dicing with death - I was nearly taken out by a speeding motorcyclist who seemed to have failed to comprehend there were 2 cyclists to go around & 3 bends in a new 40mph area, and the A49/A533 traffic lights were out but everyone was great and we got across that junction safely before baling at the next left. Heading home again was more interesting because we hit a southerly headwind which was stronger than we had hoped for and it was a bit of a battle tbh. The final test of the new wheels & cassette combination came in a climb with a nasty little railway bridge on it that I have always need to stand on the pedal to get up. Today I 'span' up it - though only just holding 80 rpm, but I didn't need to get out of my saddle! Changing from 12-26 to 11-28 really has made a difference! I'll wait til I can get out alone to really test the new wheels, but so far so good and I do seem to have assembled them correctly!;) (oh and just the 20 miles http://app.strava.com/activities/49718966)

Managed to squeeze in a pre-teatime ride with the excuse of ..."just nipping round the block to test out my new saddle". However the block I chose is 15 mile but I was back within an hour, and my bum is pleased with its new contact point:smile:

Still breezey out there!

Ok scrub what i said last night bout being broke in. I feel done in. Not long back from a 8 mile , headwind trying to make me look silly everyway i turned ride which took me out round the golf course and through Little Brechin better know by the local gangster types as Lil ' Brechin. (not making that name up you can check if you want ) then back to town via the farms of East and West Pittendriech. Legs felt like lead trying to make headway on the mtb . This headwind malarkey is all in the game i suppose however if someone spies a tailwind anywhere can they send it up here please. Had my tea now and as i type this i'm enjoying a well deserved pint of Guinness. Mike.

An acceptable substitute.

Beautiful sunshine about sums my ride up  A bit chilly at first but it warmed up quickly. Took the wheel/tyre off the fixie this afternoon at bit of a waste of the blue sky but it had to be done. Id been getting flats after leaving it overnight or in the works bike shed. Took the rim tape off and made sure the spoke holes were smooth. After an hour it was still OK and to test it out I took it out for a 7 mile ride to the supermarket, came out and it was still OK and it survived the 4 mile ride back. I suppose I better go out to the bike shed and check to see if its still ok 4hours later.

Edit: still as solid as a rock ;)

Went out early to try and avoid the wind but it picked up on the way home and was blowing against me for the last seven or eight miles. Really saps my strength and frustrates me. I think we have more forecast for the next few days.

45 miles for me today, Newbury, Pangbourne, Reading and back then some hills. Felt really good at the 35 mile mark like I could get in a 50 miler but the last 10 miles were hard, got home and found that the rear brake had been rubbing (dragging the rear wheel when pushing the bike into the house). Great to be out in the sun and riding past stop/start traffic all the way from Theale to Newbury:laugh:

A nice & gentle 19mph ave ride, colder than expected. The other riders wanted to use the suicide cycle path & so I followed. I was given good reminders why I ride on the road over that section motorists be damned.
