It pished down all morning but late afternoon it turned nice and the winds dropped to 8mph but I was working unfortunately. Decided early on though to get out for a relaxed ride, however I got out to a flat and had the wrong size of dumbbell spanner (I'm the Dumbbell ) so had to walk back home. It was still nice and I still wanted to go out but had less time for a relaxed route and had to up it a bit on my ride. Shorts and armwarmers were fine given; the track mitts were probably a mistake though  It was nice though to get a 10th place up a hill into a headwind :becool:

Just 32 briskish miles around North Cheshire for me. Over to Hale, past Tatton Park (which hadn't opened), Radbrook Park and back through Chelford and Alderley. Cold when I set off before the rest of the house awoke, but warmed up beautifully as I kept riding. The sunshine makes a really positive difference. :sun:
Got home rest of the house still fast asleep, jobs a good one.

Sunshine. No wind. Dry roads. Had a week off the bike so was raring to go this morning. Summer is declared by breaking out my shorts for the first time this year. Out by 0800 heading down to Epping Forest and the High Beech tea shack. The ride was uneventful even on the busy Epping New Road. What was eventful was that I was too early for the tea stop which was still closed. I really must find out their opening hours. I came out of the forest at the Robin Hood then practiced for the Dunwich Dynamo by taking the long drag up to the Wakes Arms, then through Epping and on to home. A 20 mile round trip. I had been getting a bit stale on the bike, hence the week off, so the rest and the sunshine meant I throughly enjoyed this mornings little outing.

Decided to push myself this morning as the weather was so nice, previous furthest was 36 miles, today was 46 miles and took in the three biggest hills I could find. A total ascent of 3680 ft, one hill had a gradient of 10%. Unfortunately we went up it. I made it round but it was tough, feels like I pushed it a bit too much maybe. A full water bottle went AWOL on a down hill at 35mph, my cycling buddy picked it up for me and a quick stop to refill it. Some great views from the top of the hills makes it all worth while.

All in all, I think I've done ok for a 44 year old bloke who only took up cycling in December. I must get a road bike though and relegate the cyclocross to winter and commutes.

Edit: I forgot the potter to meet up with my buddy so just over 50 miles, no wonder everything aches!

Pushed myself for a mighty three miles to the town centre and back. I needed garam masala, and ginger, and coriander leaves. Oh, and some peppercorns. And tandoori masala, and some poppadoms.
Honestly, it's not safe to let me near the spices-and-Far-Eastern-food stall on the market.
I nearly got a frozen red snapper, and I haven't the faintest idea what I'd do with it. Chips, probably.

Nice spin around the Peak. A route via Rainow led to today's iconic climb which was the Pym Chair ascent. I managed this successfully without stopping. First time ever. Dropped into the Goyt Valley then took the road via Derbyshire Bridge to the Cat. Quick descent into Macc and home. 21 miles 2,800ft ascent.

Lots of people out on fancy bikes, several of whom overtook me

35 miles up to steyning, storrington, Houghton hill, Arundel, Littlehampton....still got a dose of lung gunk going on...cold air not helping...so coughing like an old chimney...lovely blue sky and sunshine finally...first ride in three weeks...legs took a while to remember what they were made for...no jacket..first time this year...ended up in a sea front café with a cappuccino chatting to two ladies who liked my bike, turns out they are planning a trans am in two years...then headed to the shoreham boot sale...chav city...un real what people are trying to sell...but everyone was in high spirits due to thesunshine....

...only one idiot driver today...blind bend on hill...too close squeeze past head on into on coming cyclist...inches...heart in mouth...sped off...bmw...nuff sedded.

Went out to test out my dodgy knee to see if there was any improvement.
Managed to make it to Holmfirth and back. 30 miles which is the furthest I've done since October so things are looking up. Plenty of other riders out and also some pre WWII vintage motors taking part in the Flying Scotsman car rally.
