I did 43 miles today which is a fair increase from my previous furthest of 28 miles. Did it at an average of 18 mph as well. Nice trip and made me feel a lot better about the fact I've signed up for the new forest 60mile wiggle sportive in April. Think I might actually be able to struggle around the course

Ok so 20 mile isn't a huge distance but I got my beloved to drop me off out in the sticks so I had no choice but ride it all with no safety net of cutting off half way through my circuit and heading home early. Felt a bit daunted before I left the car but hey it's my first 'proper' ride in twenty five years and I did it, so about 30 miles today all in and the Sara is running fine with its new sissy block 13-24 on and shiny new tubs.

Posted on the wrong thread:

Just got back from an epic 60 mile ride. I didnt intend on doing that distance but when I got to Conwy, I saw Rhos CC and decided to join their club ride. I was with them down to Llanrwst and then I split off and headed back to the coast.
I then met another cyclist going along the prom and we had a little chat, and then when I stopped to have a hot chocolate and brownie I started talking to another cyclist.

I am absolutely knackered now and will enjoy a lovely long shower but it was worth it! Glad I didnt do the half term century yesterday though, I wouldnt have coped!

So frustrated!!
First decent weekend in ages and I have a bad chest cold. I was dying to get out but I knew there was no point. So annoying.
Being ill is the best time to go out. I had the flu last weekend and still went out (involved a lot of sniffing). It is better to sweat these things off and then have a nice hot shower after.

First ride in 6 weeks due to the awful weather. Took Rickshaw Phil on one of my regular routes that he hasn't been on before, from Shrewsbury to Upton Magna, Rodington, Walcot, Withington and back through to Shrewsbury. 18.1 miles at avg of 9.7 mph. A bit slower than Phil normally goes, but not too bad for my 1st ride in a while. Got 5 weeks now to build up a week of riding in the Lake District. Will leave Rickshaw Phil to provide photos later on. One highlight of the ride was seeing what looked like a modern stunt bi-plane circling over Shrewsbury as we neared the end of the ride!

Out this morning after 10 days off the bike because of a bad back, which is still a bit painful so only managed 8 miles!

Eight mile is nearly 20% of the average annual mileage in 2010. So well done  I

I managed my second ride in Februrary today, No as hard as yesterday's run. I was able to clean the bike this afternoon.

Further to Gavgav's report above, we had a good ride around the Withington and Rodington area to the east of Shrewsbury. I haven't ventured to these areas before so it was another first to add to my list. It's fairly flat (with the exception of our detour round the edge of Haughmond Hill) so nice country to ride through and we passed a few quite tempting looking pubs which might be good to visit at some point.^_^

I liked the look of the biplane we spotted. It looked a bit like a Pitt's Special, but with a radial engine.

After leaving Gav I took the scenic route home via the Quarry in Shrewsbury. Even though it's still not what you'd call warm, the sunshine has brought people out and the place was quite busy.

My tally for the day was 30.2 miles at an average of 10.4 mph.

The ground is pretty sodden still and we encountered water across the road a few times.

Looking towards Haughmond Hill. We climbed round the edge of that earlier in the ride.

The Wrekin is the dominant landmark in this part of the county.

Had a lovely ride today. 40 miles, Harlow to Takeley, Takeley to Great Dunmow, then Dunmow back to Harlow. The weather was good, there was no wind, dry roads (mostly) and me taking full advantage of my weight loss beginning to find riding much easier, especially on the hills. My average speed is certainly beginning to improve, but I am not going to give you a laugh by telling you what it is though! A few miles from home I punctured. Fortunately a very nice farmer had placed a big square straw bale in a gateway to a field which made a lovely work bench to upend the bike on. I was able to change the tube without bending at all. I got back on the road and a few hundred yards further on was another rider with an upended bike on the side of the road. He needed a chain tool as his chain had almost come apart. Thankfully I was able to lend him mine and he sorted himself out.

Every rider who went by when I was sorting my bike out on the bale slowed and checked I was OK. I was just up the road from Moreton towards Harlow, so thanks to all those guys if on the off chance any see this.

back from a very muddy but seriously enjoyable mtb ride around the Bakewell area. nothing major distance wise, 24km with 679m of climbing, but wow, what fun & good thing I like mud. there was plenty of it all round.
twas a touch cold to start off with -1.5C in freezing fog & spring cycling kit, but soon warmed up once the fog had burnt off and made it to a balmy 6C

thank you Cubist. Great fun - though still working on getting my feet dry - that puddle was a touch deep  Did I really have that much mud in my hair by the end? The shower ran brown for a while:eek: ...

Oh and Strava gave me 7 cups for my efforts (being female really helps!)
