Not today but Wednesday (I've been busy, alright!!!), myself and son-of-Browser cycled to Cambridge from Crowland, 46 miles according to the Cateye and not helped by having to divert at Whittlesey due to the B1040 being shut so had to dogleg West to the B1095, which also meant I experienced the closest pass by an artic I've ever had. The stupid sod was pulling in as his cab passed me so the trailer came perilously close
Son did bloody well, especially considering he was on his factory ali-framed MTB, albeit Michelin City-shod, and this was by a long way the farthest he'd ever cycled.
Best sight of the day was a 'bent cycling along by the Cam at Jesus Green. Oddest colour combo was a girl on a Dutch-style upright painted canary yellow, who had black hair with the top half dyed bright scarlet
Once again struck by how great it must be living in/around Cambridge with the cycling mindset it posesses.

THIS was yesterday's ride.

Rode out from home to the start of the Ironman UK lap course, (see HERE for lap details), in Adlington near Chorley.

Rode one lap of the course, (the Ironman competitors do 3, after a 14 mile point to point ride to the start as well!), then I rode back home.

51.37 miles according my new Garmin toy

I did a similar ride the other day.

Good cake at Rivington. =).

My ride today was hard! Maybe not by some standards but after last weeks flat 100 miler I wanted to get some hills in. Did part of the UK Ironman route which had a very long (surprisingly as I thought it was uphill) downhill section and I didn't have the time to do the full 33 mile loop so we cut it short to find more hills. I now know what my lungs taste like!

Oaf on a Bike
Yesterday I headed down to Ivinghoe Beacon 20 miles to the south with a couple of friends. We decided to take the canal from the south of MK to 5 miles from the Beacon, as we were expecting it to be hard work once we reached the hills, especially having to drag me and my bikes scale-crushing 140kg up a final stretch Strava has marked as a category 4 hill. Suprisingly it wasn't actually that bad at all, even for us hill-dodging southerners. We decided to cheat a bit and rather than retrace our steps home, cycled 10 miles on to a pub and stayed to watch Farah's 5k, then caught the train home. Total distance was still something like 35m/55k but my useless phone battery died not long after the Beacon. I like what I did capture of the elevation profile though

Just a short ride today. I managed to persuade my brother to come for a ride (Doug's first ride since having a big off on Hawkshead Hill during our holiday).

We did a circuit into Shrewsbury, along the riverside and through the Quarry to see how quickly they were packing away after the Flower Show.

Something I hadn't expected to see was this:

I'd forgotten the Ffestiniog Railway were bringing Linda to the show.

We did 10.6 miles at a quite leisurely 9.6mph. A good first ride back for Doug.

Doing Scarborough to Whitby and back tomorrow don't mind if it rains as long as the wind keeps off

After Tuesday's moan about the amount of rain, the rest of the week has been fantastic weather for cycling - ruined by work!

Wednesday was my last day off so a leisurely, and most importantly dry, 65 miles looping around to Stowmarket and back on back roads where possible. Since then it's just been commuting, although with a few extra miles tacked on each day simply to enjoy being out in the sun. However this afternoon I finished at about 4ish and meandered from Felixstowe docks through the day tripper traffic to Felixstowe Ferry and took the foot ferry over the River Deben to Bawdsey and thence home via Woodbridge - a 4 mile commute extended to just short of 30 miles.

Sixty eight miles from Meanwood, Leeds to Stamford Bridge and back. My fist ride on an unencumbered bike in three weeks. It felt great.

Thirty miler turned into fifty! Decided I would happily keep my cheap and cheerful bike and give the government my new bike fund (only three hundred quid so far) if they would sort out the bloody roads.
Some of the surfaces on main routes are third world!
