Mancunian in self imposed exile in leafy Cheshire
I had a rather bizzare commute this morning. Don't see many riders normally, this morning though after coming over The Wizard at Alderley Edge I heard a bike behind me and thought ok I am about to be scalped. The rider however pulled up beside me and said "hi how are you where you going" I told him I was off to work in Macc and he told me he was off out on a training run. He was riding a rather nice carbon bike with Sram Red and was in full team kit. He asked if I raced I told him not and asked what he did. It turned out he was an Elite racer for the Rapha team, had raced with Geraint Thomas and was a former GB junior. We rode together chatting away for about 5 miles before he peeled off to go through Henbury to the Cheshire Lanes and towards Tatton. Nice chap just a little surreal for a Tuesday morning commute.

I missed out at the weekend on going out as I spent Sat. doing the lawn and digging over my tiny veg plot and Sun. helping GF sort out the patio area ready for poss. BBQ later this week. So when I didn't get the phone call for work today I decided to go out for a ride. I didn't plan a route just made my mind up at each junction. I had a good idea where I was and knew which way I was heading so just kept an eye on the time and the mileage.
Did 32.4 miles in 2:07:54 (according to sports tracker). (Computer on bars showed 33.7 miles and 2:04). And that was after getting stuck behind a tractor pulling a heavy roller and creeping along at 10mph for a few hundred yards. Still managed to keep my average in the 15mph region even upping the distance.
If I'm free again later in the week I'll try to get out earlier and try to up my distance again.

A great ride in the Sunshine with 8 of my mates, the weather helped too, it was a scorcher :sun: Seven of us turned up at the gates and we were joined by another just up the road at the Chalmers St traffic lights (Eight of us in total). We set off from Dunfermline up Pilmuir St, via Knockhill and Glendevon to Auchterarder. We did have a p'ture stop on route but giving it was so nice I don't think anybody minded standing around  I think the plan was to take the back road to Auchterarder Station but we got a bit carried away on the descent in beautiful conditions and ended up in Auchterarder town ^_^ We then followed the Auchterarder Station Road to Dunning along the beautiful and relatively flat back road (which has been resurfaced at railway under bridge, if any body knows that section it did make Dollarbeg feel smooth ;) ) Then came the hill! I wee ringed it all the way up, it was too hot (March in Scotland  to give it any real effort, well for me at least ;)). We had a wee bit of a wait at the top of the hill, one of our gang had p'tured en route, which again in the hot sunny conditions was pleasant (it also let an enormous artic pass on the narrow road  ) The rumour is that he never actually p'tured he was just at a cafe instead ;) We then headed directly back via Knockhill to Dunfermline.

This is my track for todays ride (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/162098048), I’m sure other folks would have been faster as they shot up Dunning and Knockhill :bravo:

Pitiful mileage compared to some...and compared to my own deeds last year..but just getting back into it, finally made the leap and started driving part of the way to work, park the car then cycling the rest.
Awesome, 2nd ride today (i'm doing it every other day for starters), suns shining, 7ish miles each way on the new ribble sportive...
Gawld, if only i didn't work such long hours, i'd be doing it every day without question. Still...a starts a start.

A route from Fergal MacErleans' book "Bike Scotland, 40 great routes from Central Scotland" on the MTB today. Started from Glasgow Central station then picked up the Kelvin Walkway near Kelvinbridge. Followed the River Kelvin then the Allander water to Milngavie, then the West Highland Way to Mugdock park. A nice long downhill stretch to Strathblane (where I bumped into Bob Finnie, ex owner of Bob Finnie cycles in Glasgow. Now retired.) then picked up the disused railway path to Kirkintilloch. At Kirkie, joined the Forth and Clyde canal for the ride back to Maryhill and Central station. 40 miles all in.

Some nice bits:

A good clean 60 miler today through the Devonshire countryside. Clear blue skies, the sun beating down with the slightest of breezes, lurvley. Avg. speed was up aswell which was nice.

Although I think its fair to say that the number of bugs I've swallowed in the last 4 hours, I shan't be going hungry anytime soon...

Does a 2.6 mile trip to the park class as a 'ride'

Week of night shift means I only commute in the dark, so was good to actually see a bit of :sun:
was testing out my new tyres were fitted correctly and didn't take any tools with me so couldn't risk going too far, well that's my excuse.

Georgeous out there, its been a good day all round.
Circa 7 miles to work, a little chilly this morning, found a nearly new woodsaw at the side of the road. Stopped to pick it up and slip it in my rucksack....as three lorries and a train of cars went past...missed a lovely tow from them. The rest of the ride seemed to have all oncoming lorries, giving me a permanent blast of wind in my face.
Homeward bound, same 7 miles, suns shining, wind miraculousy turned through the day giving me an unexpected tail'ish breeze, how lucky is that. Just a pleasure to be alive and cycling today...
Its been a hard 6 months, very little mileage....today felt like i'm getting my legs back.

A shortish but very hard and fast (for me!!!!) blast out in the sun this afternoon. Much fun, though my legs disagree.

*waves to man with the backpack on the Boardman who overtook me, and the guy with the red SPDs who I (unexpectedly) overtook*

Went for a bit of a spin in the sunshine this afternoon out towards Acton Burnell and back. Just under 18 miles round trip. I though I was going to set a new personal best but found I had a headwind on the way back so could only match what I'd done before .

It was still a nice ride though and I'm glad I made the most of it as I hear the weather is going to turn cold again over the next few days.

Went out for an hour and did 12 miles up and down a few hills round here. Think i've probably lost fitness over the winter (booo), but on the plus side, my speed on the flat has increased since last year. I used to struggle to maintain 14/15mph, now i can easily push along at 17 or so mph.

Lovely weather riding into work this afternoon. Me cycling through an industrial estate full of potholes, parallel to a pavement/cycling lane, a distinguished gent riding on said lane shouts " way to go, girl!" and passes me merrily.
Almost fell into a pothole for laughing!
A mile down the road, at a give way, chap in a red sports car gives no sign of moving. Will he make a pancake out of me, even though I have priority? I give him a smile, he smiles back: I'm not flattened!
Riding back, not hot anymore, but not cold either. For a change, I was not the only cyclist about. It's springtime ^_^

A very rare Friday night ride and pretty much, given the time window, the same as my Wednesday midweek ride.

50.2 miles from Clevedon via Wrington, up and down the gorgeous Gorge, back up Shipham Hill and back on the A38 pretty much the same way I went out. The bath had a few flies in it this evening. I'd forgotten how much they like Cyclist's sun-creamed arms.

As ever, feel the better for it and seeing as I'm out on the razz tomorrow and I might not make a significant contribution this coming Sunday... that might be it for this week.
