Sundays club ride took my from South Shields into Northumberland via Corbridge and Hexham over Alston Moor.
Tea and cake in Alston was followed by a ride along Weardale over the hard climb at Nenthead and on through Stanhope, Wolsingham.
Eventually returning via Durham.

A great day with some great scenery.117 miles at 16.2mph, my longest single day ride

Double visit. One the way into work (raining of course) and on the way home (different route).

If fairness to her ladyship, her work was the best part of a pi$$ poor working day.

Furthest ride today 29.5 miles got soaked with in the first 10 minutes but then the weather werent too bad. Quite a flat route but I had my first dealings with traffic trying to get through town then some round abouts on the way home.
No body blew there horn so I think that was a good sign. I had a moment of indecision on the hill when I saw a big que of cars going up it. Was not sure if I was ment to go on the out side or the inside where there was room or just sit in the que. I opted for the inside when it was safe or positioned my self in the que when it wasnt. My main worry was pulling away in traffic on the hill but I kept a very low gear and it went well.
On the way home then I did cock up a bit coming up to a round about. I was going down the hard shoulder past the cars but it ran out at the entrance to the rab and I nearly went by a car with a caravan turning left like me on the inside but I spotted what was happening just in time and fell in behind him.
My main problem with traffic is my confidence in bike handling and not know exacting what is the right thing to do. I will order cyclecraft I think to clear up the grey areas

About 30 miles today with E. Her first time on a bike for over 6 months, but she has this remarkable ability to just go. Training for an urban 100 in a few weeks.

Longest ride for ages for me today. 135 miles on the Wiltshire White Horses Audax. Funny old day - cloudy, very windy and drizzle with occasional heavier shower. Quite hard in the wind. Salisbury plain is a strange place too. Still - I'm finding different places to ride and it's all good. Some of the scenery was interesting and there were several villages which were rather nice. I saw 4 of the 5 White Horses. Apparently one required one to look backwards. We also rode past Silbury Hill and both Wood and Stone Henges. Would like to do this one again on a better day as my glasses were a pain with water droplets on them a lot of the time.

36 miles on my old circuit, Peterborough, Wansford, Kings Cliffe, Blatherwyke then back via Fotheringay.
NO Red Kite..not one. Thats a first for the last 3 years perhaps. Actually i didnt really see much wildlife at all.

Took it steady, my knees been playing up and i havnt done much mileage at all this year, but still averaged 16mph, so pleased with that.

Further to my 'Status Update' "Tomorrow, do I go north or south?" I ended up choosing to go south in the end and ended up in this strange foreign land ;)

I quickly decided to retreat to safety however ;) or was that a strategic withdrawal

I didn't take many photos on route but couldn't resist taking a view of the scenery.

After a lovely ride I made the mistake of using a cycle path  avoided the usual broken glass but I didn't avoid the sharp metal  Some helpful Ned (Chav) probably thought I needed more p'ture repair practice.

147.4 miles later I was home; I couldn't resist going out for another 3.4 its now 150.8 ;)

Wow, that's some day out, HLaB!

Afraid I only went out as a c*r passenger yesterday ... looking longingly at cyclists we saw (didn't recognise anybody), and wishing I was out there in the sunshine on my bike, too. Still, the East Neuk was rather nice. And we did stop off at the Loch Leven Larder on the way home, quite a bike collection round the loch-facing side, including plenty of young recruits  .

No mileage worth mentioning, just commuting...and its wet wet wet. Raining when i went in, raining heavier several hours later.
Theres a perverse pleasure in this weather...i can imaging the drivers thinking...'hah, he's getting wet'. They cant see the cheezy grin all over my face. Rain when its not cold doesnt bother me at all. Mind it was a good tailwind on the home leg.
Big improvement on my winter/wet weather commuter. I'd put flats on it (despite it being basically a roadbike) when i built it because i dont usually use cycling shoes/cleats for commuting, but my feet were slipping off the pedals. Fitted an old pair of Look PP396s (IIRC). My shoes were a lot more stable on them, despite not having cleats.

Got to work this morning to be met with the usual chorus of 'you havnt cycled in have you'

Quickly aborted ride this afternoon
Off for my normal loop....jeezus, the winds howling round here. I guessed it was bad, not as bad as it felt once you got out in the open...pedalling downhill and still only managing 12 mph.

Sod it...turned round and cleared out the shed instead

Just been pootling with the kids and a tag along the last few days..... Today, we checked out a route to the 'sea' at my in-law's caravan, over the dunes in N Wales......

Wife decided to see if we could get along the coast on the footpath in the dunes (read grass and sand ).......

She struggled on her hybrid, my son struggled on his MTB - and I had my daughter screaming on the tag along - I was in 24 x 26 over the sand/grass track - some proper off roading - ignored the 'for on road use only' sticker on it - works real well..... heh heh.....

Had one point that was a carry bike situation though............ huge rocks.... had fun..only 5 mile circuit... and lots of washing and hosing sand off bikes.

Oh yes - the wind was crazy............
