Light dusting of snow this morning but it hadn't frozen. So cautious at first off along some biggish roads. All OK so as the day warmed up got onto the lanes. No problems really except where the trees had shaded the road and there was a bit of compacted snow. So 63 (s)miles covered and quite a nice day really although the wind was a bit of a pain at times.

What bloody wind? You are making excuses now, the slowest club ride I have ever been on ;) We did get to the cafe fairly early though so it wasn't packed with old dears having lunch.. The cafe bloke asked if we were the advance party ... ha ha , it was also about the smallest club ride in a while.
It was good to get out though, it looked bad 1st thing but young 26x25 was pretty keen to fall on his arse so off we went.. and stayed upright all day.

I had an appointment near home tonight at 4:00, canceled, so got the bike out and went for a quick blast on the Cheshire lanes. Bitterly cold wind but a lovely ride sun low on the horizon and my newly trued wheel stood up well:biggrin:.

Well, not quite today, but emailed to my wife from my mum last night, about a ride we completed 24 years ago. Its her first ride report, so be kind.

Did u know I went with Andy on his first long bike ride? Not the LEL but the Worthing to West Wickham, so maybe the www.

We cycled to Croydon -4 miles- and got the train to Brighton. In those days you rode on the pavement till you went to secondary school. So it meant a lot of stopping at side turnings and pushing and getting on again.

It was Andy's last summer holiday before big school. Andy was 11. I was 37, old enough to know better! And old enough to worry.

We took a little tent in Shari's child seat in a cardboard box on the back of my bike and 2 dustbin bags to put over our clothes to sleep in.(NB don't do this- it is cold!)

We were going to sleep in our friends' garden in Worthing.

When we got to Brighton the prom was closed. Hurricane Charlie. So we rode on the next road back from the front. Every time there was a side road to the sea, the wind made it hard for Andy to keep his wheels on the road. And to breathe.

It was scary.

Eventually we arrived. Our friends' daughter said sleep indoors but we wanted the adventure and put up the tent, shivered, hugged, slept.

Actually, I didn't sleep but then I wasn't 11

The next day the sun shone. We went to a swing park place along the prom- maybe Andy might remember. We had a lovely time. No wind.

Helen said we must sleep indoors that night and we did. It was good to eat and sleep and be warm.

And the next day we cycled all the way home from Worthing to West Wickham. Andy had a mars bar every 10 miles

Love to u all margt xxx

quite quick today, hit a 16mph average during rush hour at. i think doing 35mph through croydon underpass certainly helped.

nice 73 miles at a pretty sedate pace (at 40 i was over ten years younger than the youngest of the fine gents from the club) down to the old priest house café in audlem, cheshire (a fine establishment, the most cycle friendly café (apart from the flooring near the toilet if you're cleated) that did a huge plate of beans on doorstop toast and a fine pot of tea. the sun was shining and we had a great ride back through the cheshire lanes. almost put us in mind of a summer day, and the unbridled joy of finding some new tarmac among all the potholed roads was nearly a highlight…

good gentleman's ride, one stops we all stop kind of vibe with the faster ones waiting for the rest to catch up every so often if we got separated on a hill or whatever.

only fly in the ointment was thinking i'd lost all power in my legs at the end, while it turned out to be a broken spoke deflecting the rim to the extent that when i wheeled the bike into the house, the back wheel dragged along the floor.

A quick blast round the town in almost summery weather. Greeted by one of those large flocks of Starlings (3,000+) so packed the cycling in and watched - fantastic sight.

Extended commute this evening, maybe 15 miles...no biggie.
Must get my gears sorted , i change down as i approach TLs etc, then as i pull away...bang !! as it slips into the gear it missed or into the next one down ;) Not very confidence inspiring in rush hour traffic.
Quite windy here....

I rode up to the Pennines and then back through Henbury, Withington, Chelford, Knutsford, Tatton Park, Ashley and Mobberley. Threatened rain but only a tiny bit of drizzel. 16 mph average which i was quite surprised about because I did quite a lot of climbing at the beggining then suffered a bit after the thirty mile point but thoroughly enjoyed it.

My first post, so hello , and my first miles on the new bike this morning. 20miles over and around the Sussex downs. Seemed a crime to subject it to the mud, and puddles but it had to be done. Averaged 12mph, which I can explain through lack of condition, getting used to and playing with the new kit, and the wind, which did me few favours cycling up hill and worst still coming down. Don't you just hate it when you have to put in pedal power to go downhill?!

Hello common rail

I did a short 2 hr mtb loop in the dark peak. Rode it textbook too  and met a jolly nice chap at the top of one the permissive bridleways up to hope cross. If you're on here, mister man on a cotic FS who I thought was my mate Carlton, hello again

Just a gentle sixteen miles, in the rain and darkness, down the Thames path, loving every second of it. A year ago, the prospect would have seemed like something close to Hell. What's happened to me???
