81.84 miles was trying for 100 miles, my mind said yes but my legs said no

But on the bright side it was the best ride I have had in a long time, just kept going with hardley any stops felt like I was in the "zone" very enjoyable  nice and sunny early on but getting colder towards the end.

ROUTE: Harrogate - Wetherby - Tadcaster - Selby - York - Boroughbridge - Ripon - Harrogate.

I took my two-wheeled recumbent out for a short jaunt yesterday after not having ridden it for months. I took a familiar route until I reached a lane that I had never been down before. From the name of the lane it appeared to lead to an area I know well, so I set off along it. After about half a mile the Tarmac ran out and the surface became hard-packed earth. It was well-used by tractors and quite rutted - this was not good territory for a long wheelbase, under seat-steered 'bent but I pressed on. After another mile or so the surface deteriorated into being flinty stones covered with about an inch of loamy dust. I had two small offs and decided that I had better walk; I rounded a corner to find about twenty Red Deer crossing my path. What a magnificent sight they were. We stood and looked at each other for a while before they took fright and moved off at speed across the fields. So my trek along the lane was worth it.

The rest of the journey was uplifting too until I reached the outskirts of the town and found 'Road Closed' signs. Sadly a motorcyclist had hit a lamppost and killed himself; this brought back a lot of memories for me, as I was a Traffic Police Officer many years ago. Loss of life on the roads is always rather poingnant for me.

My ride was awesome, not a breath of wind, around 22 degrees and not a car on the smoothest winding roads you have ever seen!:biggrin::biggrin:

Where was this mecca you say? In my head :sad::biggrin: still too sore and stiff to ride!

Nice little ride yesterday through Hambledon, Frieth, Fingest and Marlow, lovely quiet lanes. 14 miles, 51 mins, av 15.9mph. Saw lots of cyclists, so lots of nods/waves/mornings dished out!

20 miles or so after work.
Double edged sword really...you get your ride straight away, no getting home, getting comfortable, then having to get ready again to go out....

but then you've got the world and his brother driving home oblivious to everything...must get home, must get home !!!

2 moderately close passes. Nothing OTT, but its that time of day....blinkered drivers, just focussed on getting home ;)

I took the winter bike into the office today what a dream it is to ride compared to the hybrid. It was a bit of a nightmare on the club run (gears slipping) and I don't think the poor weather helped. I'm just looking at the gps out put now taking off the 2 miles at the start and 2.55 miles at the end when I was on my own (I was actually on my own for a bit longer than that but that's convenient) taking the central 40 miles, the club ride average 19.6mph. The weather and slipping gears made it a bit of a pain but I'm glad I did it though

Todays ride was pretty special ... down to the beach...then up inland through the countryside and the woods ....dunno about the mileage though, wasnt concentrating on anything but my ride TBH.

How good is it that the clocks have went forward I went out on an enjoyable 33 miles with a mate it was a little windy but the weather was great. There was one idiot, in his suped up car who spoiled it a bit sat in a carpark with great visibility, plenty of eye contact. When we passed he grins and deliberately pulled out on to the main road and slams on his brakes in front of us. The homeward leg with the wind behind us was more fun and that idiot was forgotten about until now

Short commute tonight, which was to be followed by an hours ride after tea....and the truth is, i cant be arsed.
Sometimes, its nice not to have to. I always think it's your bodys way of saying 'go steady boy'
On a double negative tonight, SWMBO was riding to meet me, and she'd been swung at by a stoopid teenager with a tennis raquet...just caught her on the finger. Sods ran off. I rode back that way with a view to calling the Police if i saw them...but nothing.
Sad, its unusual for something like that to happen here...i'd like to think it was just stupid childish high jinks.
Won't lose any sleep over it...but i'll be keeping an eye open for the girl in question.
