First hard push of the year for me today.
Had a trundle around the Marshes with the missus. She stopped in the village and got some shopping, before riding back home. I carried on and rode up towards Ilfracombe, turning off to go over the top to Georgeham and Croyde then back home.
14.1 miles, 606 feet of elevation gain. Average speed 13.4 mph.
Would have been over 15 mph if I'd gone on my own.
Fairly happy with that effort.

I don't need an excuse to ride but I do need one to go to the coast on a winters day so with the news of the listing ship being so prominent I thought I'd go & take a look & combine a ride at the same time.

Unlike the sunny pictures in the posts above it was a very grey afternoon as I set off to the south across a breezy, although not cold, New Forest, through Beaulieu & down to Calshot beach. It would appear that half of Hampshire had the same idea as I've never seen so many people there in January so after a quick picture I headed further along the coast to Lepe beach for another view before heading back via Exbury & the forest again for a 36.7 mile round trip.

Went for the last ride of my 42nd year today (I turn 42 tomorrow). Jumped onto my bike and cycled down to the Bristol-Bath Railway path for a cup of hot chocolate (with marshmallows on the side) and a piece of victoria sponge. A friendly guest shared the cake with me, but sadly the tardis was out of order.

Managed to break the hammer on my bell on the way home I think due to frustration with the number of pedestrians on the cycle path.

Bumped into a friend from the cycle club on the way home as I popped into the shops for some sundries.

Mindful of my hurty back, which by the way was so painful this morning I had to crawl to the bathroom, once in the very hot shower I was able to stand up and walk about .... just. I made an appt with docs and went to the swimming pool had a swim about, cos in the past that has really helped the back, then later to the quacks for some advice and pain killers. Apparently it's sciatica and swimming and exercising and the occasional pain killer will keep it managed.

So and 11.8 miles to the pool and docs and back, no photos 'cos it was a grey day and I didn't go or see anything anywhere interesting, apart form a blackbird bathing in a puddle, but it flew away before I got the camera out, so here is a photo of my dogs Nettie & Jessie.
