Weighing in at nearly a kilo heavier this morning to yesterday I thought another ride was maybe in order this morning. :mrpig:

Another freezing morning meant wrapping up warm as I set off at around 9:45 & with the prospect of frosty roads there were to be no heroics today as I kept to forest roads that I knew would be dry & ice free.

Little or no wind meant I could pick any direction so I headed south through Colbury, past Beaulieu & then west towards Brockenhurst. This was where the fun began as I'd forgotten about the Boxing Day hunt & it was only when I saw the build up of cars that I realised so I paused a couple of times to chat to people but my question of "Can you think of a more vile way to spend Boxing Day" didn't seem to win me any new friends. :giggle:

Upon leaving there it was up to Rhinefield Ornamental Drive & through the beautiful giant redwoods before crossing to Bolderwood & across Stoney Cross towards home with plenty of other cyclists for company, which was nice to see.

39 miles in the bank & enough calories burnt for me to enjoy Christmas dinner number 2 which I always cook myself on Boxing Day.

Just a 7.8 mile MTB ride today....around the town and across the Country Park...... still an average of 10.3 mph.... not bad as I was Dog Dodging and taking some pictures too.... Forecast is rain later but....drier and colder for the next 5 days..... more MTB riding methinks..... keep the road bike away from the excessively salty roads...

This time last year I was recovering from a hernia operation it was miserable time but time is a great healer hope you have a speedy recovery.
thanks - I'm probably facing another spinal op before long (sadly) and could do with some more of the feeling returning in my right leg. I seem more mobile and can now sit upright for an entire 12 minutes around 4-5 times a day... I could just with the pain level subsiding a touch... also took another fall this morning - my right leg didn't hold me and gravity took over.

so please all keep posting rides and photos, they are keeping me entertained as are thoughts of options like a trike recumbent when I can actually sit up long enough to get somewhere (Wrexham) to hire one to test out... (thanks @mickle for that info - seems the closest and most sensible option so far!).

I had a 20 mile loop this morning to go to work. Yes you heard right, work! These heated greenhouses don't water themselves, some do, but ours don't.....
It was a 5 minute job as I don't have much about at present.
I made my way out of Cambridge along Queen's Road, Kings college Chapel looking as impressive as ever.
I went home via Girton, Oakington and Dry Drayton. In Drayton a group of about 10 roadies were approaching the junction to my road. I was hoping they were going to head for Hardwick as I'd have sat on their wheels as the road back home catches a stern westerly, but the buggers went elsewhere!
I'm off to Devon for 3 days but I'm not taking the bike.... I need to give my eyelids a rest as I've given them wind burn riding in the cold. Aloe Vera and honey are repairing them, hopefully they will mend, then I'll probably do it all again!

After eating at least 1 bit of cake, perhaps some Christmas pudding and various other stuff, I took the opportunity to ride it off this morning. Cold as it's been around here so far, and I set off with ice on the cars and the road, so slow and steady to start. Towpath to Staines where I spotted a statue of the Swan Master, must have cycled past it a hundred times..

No idea why he's sideways, he's upright in my copy!
Towpath to Laleham, Chertsey, then on to Walton before heading back through Weybridge, Addlestone, Foxhills, Chobham, Lyne and home.
Suffered cold feet, so I really must sort out the cleat position on the MW81's which arrived a couple of weeks back:rolleyes:
30.9 miles, nearly there....

Mod Edit: picture hopefully sorted.

25 miles today, first went out to watch the SRC Boxing Day 10 mile TT.
Some of the riders were faster than I could catch ?

Had a coffee & cake after the event then headed to Pucklechurch Crematorium to visit my Mum.
A short hop down to Westerleigh to meet family for bubble & squeak & turkey.
A relaxing afternoon watching my girls playing with their new toys.

Journey home was very wet - but only 5 miles

After a 'different' Christmas Day yesterday, with MrsXXX being ill with a female version of Manflu (similar to real Manflu, but a girlie version, therefore not quite so bad) I decided that I'd pop out for a few chilly miles in attempt to freeze any of her germs that might wish to attach themselves to me!

Well, at -2 at 8 ish this morning, I set out for a while. I had to be back home by 10:00 to get a leg of lamb in the oven ready for some family to turn up at 13:00. As I do the cooking in the XXX household, I had to time my ride quite accurately...

Happily, the wind of previous days had died down, but it was bloomin' cold! Even with my 'thins' on under my gloves, my fingertips were feeling it. Maybe my blood donation a couple of days ago was affecting my circulation a bit. Who knows..

Nevertheless, after dropping down to the Washlands and on to Little Houghton I was warming up a bit. Still crunching through icy puddles though.
On a bridleway to Cogenhoe, I stopped for a chat with a chap out for his morning walk for a while, then thought that I'd better crack on a bit to be home in time. I could have carried on for miles, but used a more direct route through Billing Aquadrome and back up the hill in Great Billing.

Apparently this is Poseidon..
Back home on 13 and a bit miles, ready to start cooking dinner though I'd have been quite happy to tot up a lot more miles in the dry and calm weather.

The fresh snow last night was great, the snow today is not snow, it's ice

22 miles on the ice today, slow going. At least I discovered the sweet spot for the psi, 4!! It was hard work but worth it, I was running 8psi but had a job with the hard ice ruts, so lowered the pressure. Still a good ride but the roads on the way home were lethal, especially in the frozen car tracks:surrender:

Don't suppose studded ice tyres exist for fast bikes yet do they?

Glad you enjoyed the ride. Is that dawn on the horizon?
