...I might have made it to the end of the lane....

I admire your optimism

On a more serious note, it's good to see you enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.

there was sunshine?

But on a more serious notes, I have been out twice a day since my step-father leant me his crutches and I now have some proper ones off the hospital since the op. I've been out 38 times according to veloviewer since I ruptured the disk in my back... strava does not show it on the full interface, but... http://www.strava.com/athletes/1127216 but if it doesn't try this link, veloviewer and change it to walk... http://veloviewer.com/athlete/1127216/

A quick ride before the cookathon began. I did laps near Chillington House. A few parts were deep in mud and a little flooded.

I am now in winter mode so will only use the small chain ring. This I find, helps keep the cadence up and levels of knee pain down! It also gives me an excuse for being a bit slower.

For slightly obvious reasons, I haven't posted anything here for the last 2 months, at least not ride related anyway... but I know a number of you have been following my progress on strava and helping me stay motivated with my physio and as threatened in another post, I thought that I might write up this morning's physio walk!

Santa somehow managed to deliver me a Sony Smartband Talk SWR30 overnight - a seriously good challenge because we don't have a chimney.... It reckons this was 290 steps! I may have to count them this evening and recalibrate it - sadly it does not talk to Strava or my smartphone, but does communicate with my tablet! Also sadly, no coffee and cakes were involved, no mince pies either and I will apologise now for the photos @potsy and @User14044 I may have found someone to challenge your photography skills... the camera was in the hands of my husband and even with some tactful hints....

So the start time was a precise 10:36 today (usually a 06:36 start but someone was allowed a lie in today and it wasn't me!)... the crutches sprint race that happens twice daily in these parts, though usually in the dark for reasons best not covered... the early race leader seemed to be the weather, but I did make it to the 'tunnel' prior to a brief but heavy hailstorm... Out of the tunnel for the very first time since the operation 2 weeks ago made for a pleasant change and it caught the weather and the photographer off guard... then for the planned U turn - this is a complicated manoeuvre which has to be executed from a certain angle and must be a left hand turn otherwise disqualification is inevitable and tumbles guaranteed . Then for the slight uphill incline, back into the tunnel before the final push (again uphill) towards the pond where 5 of the 6 goldfish remain alive, a left turn prior to the pond ensures the shortest path to the front door (cunningly hidden behind the tree in the last photo) and it is a photo finish across finish line, well it would have been if the photographer had not been more interested in the pile of hailstones in the guttering. Time 10:51... and the next round of torrential rain commences. The final hurdle for the day is the stair case... repeat later in the dark! I may have just made 100m for the sprint!

I hope the threat was worth it! Done twice a day, each day extending by a metre or so. It's about half what I could do before the op, but I'm getting there.

Stick at it SNSSO, you'll be on the bike again before you know it.

@SatNavSaysStraightOn - Im behind the curve with what happened to you, but hope you have a speedy recovery and can get back to doing what you love in good time.

Hope everyone has had a fantastic Christmas, and getting some much needed R&R!

I ended up having to work today on an early shift, and when I left work it was in blistering sunshine (albeit 8 degrees) so when I got home I grabbed the bike and shot out, something (cycling straight after work) I haven't done in months.

Had a bit of a rough Christmas, not the work, but we had my mum-in-law's funeral on Tuesday. Was a lovely send off with more flowers than I've seen together in a long time, and plenty of people who travelled to pay their respects. And then yesterday the wife came down with a horrible cold, brought on in part by the emotional struggles she has endured these last 3 weeks I think.

So the bike ride was a bit of an escape for me today, not from the wife ((obviously!) but just from everything in general, could just forget and ride for a bit. Wasnt Strava hunting, though I did record it as usual, just cycled and enjoyed the deer, the quiet(er) roads and the sunshine. Was lovely.

My cadence has dropped 10 rpm in the last few months, and since my last HR belt broke, my new one is recording rather scarily high HR compared to last year / earlier this year (averaged 157bpm this ride.....) so fitness is clearly something I need to focus on again in 2015 - but then we've still got the mum in laws stuff to sort out (damp in her roof / wall of boiler room + no house insurance for her flat + a young lady in the flat above which is causing the water damage who had a nervous breakdown when social services took her child away 2 years ago and has only one light bulb receiving electricity, and sits on feathers in the living room) plus the wifes new job in Manchester plus selling our flat plus a new job / job transfer for me..... I'd better stop, it's turning into my horror diary again lol.

Anyway, this time next year things should hopefully be a lot cheerier in the Nomad household, just having a wee bump, and we all get them, as evidenced by @SatNavSaysStraightOn's sad issue.

I hope everyone has a great new year, and don't eat too much over the next few days...or ride it off!!

EDIT: BTW When did Veloviewer turn into a money grabbing good for nothing app?

I think that is somewhat unfair.

The site is really excellent, and we have been lucky to have it for free. It was run on a shoestring until now

Seven miles today, fantastic weather for late December in these parts, near 50F and sunny, the first time I've seen the sun out in a few days. Marvelous day for Christmas, and a good ride as well. Followed by a nice roast of beef and Yorkshire pudding as a restorative.

I have no issue with them offering a premium service for money, but not when they make the free version suddenly pointless.

If you don't pay suddenly it only relays information for the last 25 rides, so things like the sig I used to use is pointless.

Offer something new and extra for the money, don't take away functionality that has been free since inception.

Sites like Strava etc which offer extra features under the premium service don't make the free stuff unusable.

That's where I have the issue. Have removed my details from veloviewer anyway.

10 miles today
only 4th ride of December* after a month of - on /off viral / fatigue & ice, it was nice to get out, ride & just notice the countryside
(also good for the old back / Xmas indulgences)

 *glass half full time
Similar for me...just 10 miles to blow away the cobwebs.
Blimey, I'm becoming seriously unfit, theres a time when that was warm up mileage, my excursions are so rare now that even 10 miles makes me puff.

But as you say, glass half full...I got out there and feel better for it.
