100.20 miles (my first in 22 years.. thanks to ilovebikes encouragement)

Myself, Ilovebikes and Auntie Helen met up today with the YACF forumers for a nice, meandering very un-hilly 50 mile loop around the Essex lanes. Absolutely glorious weather and great company. S

Hellen and myself swapped bike/trike for a few miles which was jolly fun.

And a big :bravo:to ilovebikes who completed his second 100 miler within a week, and still before his 18th birthday

100 miles  Well done! I just did 51, although I did do some of those miles (well, a fraction of one) weighed down by a bunch of flowers for Mum:

A very short 14miles to give my mum a mothers day card. I struggled a bit into howling gale for the first 10 miles or so (with a mild hangover ;)), when I got to the Forth Road Bridge, I think it was shut so I doubled back to Dalmeny and got the train. Had to wait a hour or so for the train across the rail bridge to Inverkeithing (a journey that normally only takes 15mins);) To make matters worse at the station they had a sign up saying that on Sunday all trains are departing from Platform 1, which bl**dy Sunday the train I ended up getting was Platform 2. Well at least the journey was free, the guard never appeared. After all that I was feeling strangely refreshed and shot up the hill into that same headwind.

40 again today. ..and in wet kit as well..yuck. Nice and sunny but windy from the NW.
I saw a sign outside a boozer on the chalk board about Mothers day...it read:

There are two things we need to give our kids, the first is roots, the second is wings.

Which i thought was profound...beats the usual 'credit crunch lunch signs' anyway.

That'll be parsnips followed by fried chicken wings on the menu, then:biggrin:

Yeh, rub it in. Gorgeous day and I wake with flu - real flu, not wimpy man flu - for only the 2nd time in my life. Did a 120km ride on Friday, felt fine yesterday so I've no idea where it's come from. I've felt like shite all day and I can't see me riding for at least a couple of days. I was battling with a come and go cold for Jan & Feb so I'm pretty fed up.

They're still gorgeous, mate! I had brekker in a Lewes street cafe yesterday and was entertained by a beautiful, young and talented violin busker who was only a little younger than my daughter:ohmy:

70 miles from Selby through Howden ands Soth Cave to Beverley and back. I thought I was doing well to average 18 mph for the first 25 miles but pay back time came with the strengthening wind on the return leg.

I twas only meant to be a 63 mile Audax ride but a wrong turning or two added some pointless miles.

Still I was happy to complete it at the 15km/hr pace (only just made it)

I had almost the exact same thing happen, set off this morning at about 9:30 beautiful sunshine went from Harrogate - Wetherby - York - Selby and managed to do it with an average speed of 15 mph which is the best I have ever done. So I had lunch then set off back only now there was a really strong headwind this was against me all the way back to Harrogate bringing my average down to 12.28 mph not a happy bunny ;)

Still on the bright side the last time I did this ride at the begining of the month I covered 77.54 miles and it took me 7hrs 20 mins but this time I covered 67 miles and did it in 5hrs 27 mins so a good result ;) but I can't help wonder what time could have done it in if it wasn't for that pesky headwind, mind you I might have been tempted to go for 100 miles and ended up a jibbering wreck at the side of the road.
