;) What the hell is all the sludge all over the place ????

Commuting on my good bike now...a bit early, i know there's still a bit of salt about...but i cleaned my bike at work this morning...jeeesus. The slimy grey crud that's come off the wheels beggars belief. Its took 3 go's with a spray bottle/soapy water to shift it.
Its damp out here today, it really seems to have brought the crud out of the roads.
Silicone sprays next, shine the frame up....but avoid the brakes and rims ;) The 2 don't mix.
I do my chain regularly at work too, and its filthy as well. Think i'm going to bite the bullet, stop using good old oil and maybe get some Finish Line or similar.

Probably the nicest commute of the year so far. Bright sunshine and low winds and no incidents! Only trouble is I decided to go for a run at lunchtime and now question how much is left in my legs for the trip home.... oh well!

4 hours on the road today and pleased to see my HR was 10 points lower than when i did it a month ago!
somehow i need to get my speed up too, but i guess today felt like the windiest ride i have done for a while.

just did 24.44 miles on the turbo in an hour. Was my hardest turbo session to date (it included 25 30 second on 30 second off intervals), but found it the most enjoyabvle and least boring:biggrin:

What is it with me and bird poop?

Today I went on a nice wide loop to go to the Co-op for some groceries. As I was cycling along the edge of the River Stour at Mistley the famous Mistley swans were, as usual, hanging around on the grass verges beside the road.

For some unknown reason one of the swans from the [collective noun for group of swans] took exception to my trike and decided to try to get away from me. This involved him/her running into the road, pooping as he went along, going rather slower than I was. After some big wing flaps he took to the air - just - and hovered about 10 feet up just in front of me, going in the same direction, squirting poop out the whole time. Fortunately I missed the guano and the swan, clearly on the verge of stalling, swooped to the side and landed rather heavily on a bit more grass. Various passers-by looked amused by it all, I was just relieved I hadn't been hit by airborne swan poo.

The rest of the ride was rather uneventful.

As the daylight is stretching a lot later now I went up the snake. It was very nice but how many frigging cyclists do that in the pitch black? I saw loads of people going the other way and got overtaken by some club on the way back!

Did another 101km - same route as 10 days ago and took 14 mins off the time. I felt good but was surprised it wasn't a touch faster...if 30km/h average isn't good enough!

Helen , I can't help with your first question , but wrt the collective noun for swans , this might help ........ http://www.nzbirds.com/more/nounss.html

There seem to be more collective nouns for swans than you can shake a quano covered stick at.

I did just over 24 miles , three laps of Richmond Park + there and back , to celebrate getting my road bike two years ago today. (goes misty eyed)

Went out on the club evening training run. Steady pace, but some good hills and predictably the pace climbed higher for the final 10 miles run back into Edinburgh into a strong head wind. Managed 45 miles in 2 1/2 hours.

Cycled 80k back from work - okay, I may have taken a bit of a detour
First time I've been able to cycle home from work this year  Hopefully be a bit more of a regular happening now that Mrs Noodley has stopped working overtime every day. Looking forward to cycling in tomorrow.
