Managed just under 70 miles this morning. Crewe to near Buxton and back. Was loving it on the way out, flew up Cat and Fiddle. Upon turning around to head home my heart sank as I realised I'd had a tailwind:laugh:
Two miserable painful hours into a cold headwind later (at least one of which consisted of me repeatedly swearing to myself that I'd never get on a bike again) I stumbled into my house.
No doubt I will soon have forgotten how much it hurt and want to get out there againxx(

Early afternoon cycle - 7.5k in about 25 - 30mins. Lost my stop watch so times aren't too accurate.

Great weather today for it also. Didn't want to head out, but as usual it was worth it once I'd finished.

A quick 52 miles with the club. I went out with the 2nd fastest group today as they were going a different route to watch a local'ish road race. The only thing is that stopping for the race wasn't good for me I got left behind on the restart, not fully being up to speed . I was quite pleased with my reaction though, I put my head down and caught them up 10mile later despite the 20mph wind

Once round the blue route at Glentress.... on the 20 year old MTB I use for commuting. It may never be the same again. First time for me... shin is bruised and bloody and I'm promising myself a bike with suspension and better brakes for next time!

Great fun though!

A metric century which started out lovely and sunny with a reasonable tailwind and ended cloudy, miserable and hilly with a howling headwind. There were four of us initially, but the slowest person peeled off - I kept dropping back to tow her back to the other two, but when she went I had to keep up with the fast pair. I fair turned myself inside out doing so. I'm now having a very quiet evening in with a hot water bottle in the middle of my back, which is a bit tender with all the effort, and a bottle of wine. I've really got to make some food, and i have a fridge full of lovely ingredients, but with nobody to make it but me I'm just sitting here getting hungrier and hungrier. I've even got a celeriac to eat, which I love, but i am rooted to the spot

Not feeling too good today, bit of man flu, which lets face it is the most deadly disease ever!!!

Still I went out for a short 12 mile ride to work and then did 21 after work 4 hours later. Suffered a puncture though. But I was impressed with my new wheels.

I had a very interesting ride today!

Went out with my mate with the intention of doing 30-40 miles, with as many hills as we could find, as a sort of training ride in preparation for next week's Epic Cycles Spring Challenge.

However, my mate's wife happens to be 9 months pregnant and overdue!!  (Quite how he is "allowed out" under the circumstances is beyond me). So, he said we should try and stay reasonably close to home - just in case.

After about 28 miles his mobile rang - just at the bottom of another hill. He casually says "Ooh, I'll answer it when we get to the top". So we then pull over, but by this time the caller has rung off. So he tries to ring home to check up but the phone is engaged, to which he comments "The misses is gassing again". Anyway, he then rings his message service and then calmly announces "Her waters have broken - I need to get home"

We pretty much time-trialled the 4 miles home and I was knackered. Just as we were going our separate ways, he said to me, "The really good news about this is that I'll be alright for next weekend and won't have to worry about answering my phone"

Priceless!!

Gary.

PS. If this story gives the impression that my mate is some sort of uncaring, inconsiderate husband, then I can assure you he is definitely NOT! Quite the opposite in fact. He is just very laid back and has an incredibly understanding wife.

I was in the race and did not manage to catch the peleton up again after losing them on the 1st lap. We made a small group of 7 'failed' riders and ran our own race. Bloody hard, strong wind and leg sapping hills. I am not sure where I came - but not well enough. It was hard.

72 miles in total today. 40 with the Bromley cyclist group ride in deepest darkest Kent, 32 miles non stop to home with ilovebikes.. Very nice country ride, little chilly, some sun.. great pub stop. And an unfortunate incident when a Mercedes driver decided to very successfully intimidate one of our lady cyclists. His excuse was that he was following patiently for 3 miles behind us on a single track and none of us had moved over. (It was actually half a mile at the most, and no safe passing places). But that didn't stop him trying to get as close as possible to the lady cyclist, then slamming his brakes on. (Oh yes I didn't think that the waitress in the pub you were drinking in thought too kindly to your rudeness either). Thing is fella, you didn't reckon on a few other cyclists hearing the commotion and cycling back and confronting you and your behavior did you? You soon got back in your car and skulked of.

Any way.. we got safely to the end of the ride, were most decamped to the pub.. me and Ilovebike set off on our non stop trip to home, skirting south of Maidstone. Getting a little lost.. getting back on track, over hill and down valley.. and over the north downs..my legs are feeling it I tell's ya.. so a great ride, with great company, but it only takes one peanut to put a slight dampener on things..

Set off with the intention of riding up to Greenfield Road from Meltham via Deer Hill, and then riding down the Wessenden valley for a change (we normally climb it) We spent the first couple of miles climbing into a strong headwind. We realised as we got to the Goat Track on the far side of the rifle range that we were going to try and cross an exposed moorland in a biting gale with rain through it. Young Cubester was looking very apprehensive, and so discretion got the better of us and we turned tail and explored a few bridleways lower down in the valley. After finding a quarry where we could practise some skills we rode back down the last few miles to the car. It was absolutley bizarre, having to pedal hard in low gears to make progress downhill! Also managed to find a farmtrack absolutely inundated with liquid cowshit, so had great fun handing Mrs Cube our wet gear and watching her face...............

Am yet to do mine. My usual Sunday 50 miler is looking increasingly less likely as Very bad weather closes in. I am not a fair weather cyclist but if I cycle at the moment I will be asking for trouble . Maybe the afternoon will be betterxx(
