Tuesday's ride was a 75 mile trundle through Otley, Knaresborough, Ripon, Thirsk, Northallerton and onto Darlington. It was tougher than expected and I put this down to poor nutrition. A meal in a Chinese restaurant the night before the ride does little for 'carbing up' and staying up late did little to set me up.

The ride also confirmed my suspicions that I'd benefit from a smaller granny ring and I'll be fitting a 26 tooth one as a replacement for the 30 tooth one that comes as standard on a 105 chainset.

I could always lots a barrowload of lard - I wonder what the gearing equivalent of eight stones would be?

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Sunday's ride was a spooky float up the 635 in thick fog, quite ethereal. spin round at the top and descend (slowly). Right at the bottom in Greenfield and then grains bar. Took a left at the top (ship lane) for a detour and ended up having to wade 300 yds through knee deep snow. Interesting.

did a new route in, mainly along one of those disused railway lines now used for cyclists and walkers. turns a 7km ride into 11km, although more unclipping required so the spds might have to replace the looks if i do it more often.

Just a 9 miler around the summer TT circuit so I used it as training. Looks like weather will be better tomorrow so should get a few miles in then.
and it was horribly muddy, goddam farmers..... haha

Same old 10 miles there and back. Today's variations include -

A cyclist who I passed, who took a short cut and reappeared in front of me so I had the joy of passing him twice.

Two motorists, one in each of the lanes either side of me at a red light half way round a roundabout, who decided when they saw the traffic stop in the junction to the left, that there was no need to wait for our lights to change to green - both set off while the light was still red. Un-be-lieve-able! (that is, if it didn't happen all the time...)

Ive noticed this becoming increasingly...err increasing :angry:

Even in Peterborough, at rush hour, drivers seem more and more to want to just push through once the lights have gone red..particually at r/a's, where they promptly join the queue...on the r/a. Apart from the illegality of it, whats the freeking point. Break the law to gain 20 yards

Had an annoying encounter today. There were two women on horses ahead of me riding abreast on a narrow country lane headed the same way as me so I approached from behind them. I gave them as much room as possible by hugging the right hand side of the lane (putting myself in some potential danger) as I went past. I saw the horse on the right see me and realised it wasn't spooked or anything and slowed down to get past. The woman on that horse yelled at me, "For God's sake why don't you use your bell?" I laughed. Who has a bell on their bike nowadays?

What is the protocol when faced with this stupid question? It IS a stupid question, isn't it?

For me and for others on rides with me, if none of us have a bell we make one with our voices, and if we all do it at the same time it has a great comical effect:biggrin:

I had a nice 2 hour night ride last night. Actually was taking layers off as I was warm and could see for miles from up on the hills.
