My first swallow of the year flitted across the lane I was pedalling along today.
I had my first swallow of the year today too - unfortunately it was a fecking fly that went straight down the wrong airway.
Also had a siskin I think. Flash of yellow tail feathers but I need to check it in the guide.

Just to prove your point I'll selflessly post a photo of the great Sir Sebastian Hobbs taken in my kitchen...

Saw several swallows and the first house martins (around 6 or so) of the spring today at The Naze country park in Essex. It's right on the coast so I suspect they may just have reached landfall from the continent ( or maybe they were just following the coastline). They all looked to be heading north west at some rate of knots.

A pair of swallows have nested on top of a light in the gents loo at The Naze for at least the last two years. I took some photos of the young last summer (memo to self, taking photos in the gents is guaranteed odd looks!). That pair not back yet though.

There was a lot of bird activity in the garden today, normally it is just the wood pigeons and a few blackbirds but today we had a couple of magpies,2 Jackdaws, 2 gold finches, blue tits, a wren and a robin. The sparrowhawk fancied the wood pigeons that were in the ash tree but was unsuccessful, she returned twice later on soaring high above.
