The pond is starting to come to life again, some of the tadpoles are swimming about, loads and loads of water lice and whilst putting some more plants in spotted frogs, and a newt enjoying the sun as it lazily floated about just under the surface. A few plants have died over the winter but many more are springing up again, hopefully the lily will flower this year.

On the 21 mile drive to work at 6am this morning...
One very proud looking Buzzard, perched on his normal spot, overlooking fields.
One Barn Owl, very white, along the Forty Foot drain. Often see them along there.
Several swans, curled up in or at the edge of fields.
A fox, just at the beginning of the Forty Foot.
Ducks are lively, scooting around over the water.
GC Grebe, a few of them.
A couple Kestrels, on telegraph poles or lines, hunched up and looking like they'd rather still be asleep tbh.
Loads of Cormorants.
Plus all the usual suicidal pidgeons and doves...

1 x great tit

when we stayed here last year we saw Jays on a regular basis so looking forward to seeing them again at one point

A record count of 7 siskins on the bird feeder this morning. The most I've seen all winter has been 4 so I wonder if some of these are passing through? They breed in the conifer woods in the Peak District so should be on their way soon.

Lesser Redpolls still hanging around; they also don't breed locally so will be on their way. Goldfinches noticeably fewer in number as they presumably head to summer quarters

[QUOTE 4221536, member: 9609"]we have had four in the garden most of the winter, I think they have gone now, haven't seen any for a few days, we live close to comercial woodland so I guess they have wnt back up there for the summer. They really have enjoyed the Niger seeds, the Siskins and Goldfinches take turns and usually wait patintly for each other, although tempers do sometimes flare.
here is one of each

I like your feeder. The goldfinches and greenfinches make a right mess in my garden with the nyjer seed, but unlike the mixed seeds and sunflower hearts, nobody's interested in cleaning it up.

Talking of flared tempers, yesterday I watched a blackbird trying and failing to chase a sparrow away from one of the suet blocks. The sparrow just ignored him and carried on feeding, while the blackbird wheeled and dived and appeared to throw a proper tantrum!

Just had a couple of house sparrows on the feeder. I don't see many. There is, though, a bunch (quarrel?) of them that, time to time, take over a hawthorn hedge on a busy road near here.

Grey Wagtail going into a hole on the side of a stone barn on yesterday's ride. Nesting perhaps?
