I have found a dollop of eggs next to my pond! They are black in colour, a bit like snails eggs and in a sort of jelly. The size of the dollop is about one and a half inches by one inch. It resembles Ivy berries in jelly. Any ideas?

The sparrowhawk paid a visit to my garden earlier but the small birds saw it coming and didn't hang around.

Frogspawn @Illaveago

Move them somewhere a bit wetter - like a pond - and some may live. Adopting them thus would give yourself the right to call yourself the 'frogfather' of those that survive.

I have just seen a hedgefrog. I went up to put some water on the egg things when I heard a rustling noise, I thought it was a cat but as it got closer I could see it was a medium sized hedgehog out on a wander.

I love lapwings too.

I remember riding my bike over ashworth moor in my late teens. It had been an all-dayer. I wasn't far from home, and the sound of the lapwings thrilled my heart to bursting.

When we lived in Melksham, about 6 miles south we used to hear Curlews. They also made a lovely warbling sound, sadly the farmer put land drainage in and they dissapeared.

After several years of having them in my garden, mine vanished last summer. Don't think any new ones have returned. Well, there's poo on the patio but I think it's too runny to be a hedgefrog's. I'm blaming the pheasants.

I love that noise too... it somehow seems unnatural, like no living thing could possibly produce that sound.
