I’ve been up near Burrator this morning to look for Clathrus archeri- devil’s fingers. And I found some.

A red bellied woodpecker?

Oh is it? Don’t think the belly is red tho

I fancy it's a red bellied woodpecker. The red colouration to the belly is only generally quite faint and can be hidden by the whiter feathers (specially in juvenile birds) but it is the only 'pecker to have a completely red head like the one in the photo.

Today was spent at a couple of RSPB sites on the Somerset Levels with my togmate, Rob. These photos are his (with his permission) as mine are still in the camera :smile:
