Your day's wildlife

A very poorly tawny owl ( I think ) it never moved as I rode past . Managed to pick it up and move it under the hedge on the verge . The people who's house it was near came out to see what I would up to . They said they ring the local wildlife people so here hoping it will ok . But it didn't look good

I'm working and living out of London during the week and so get the benefits of wildlife I wouldn't normally see. Such as a large group of swifts around the village where I was this week. This is a few of them at dusk but there must have been about 50 in total. They are superb fliers constantly moving:

We put a net cage over our purple sprouting and on a daily basis we were freeing white cabbage butterflies that had got in but could not get out .

So on a daily basis we are picking loads of these caterpillars of the leaves .

Then on a walk earlier this furry caterpillar crossed our path .

You've just explained something that was puzzling me last week on a bike circuit of the park with the granddaughter by the lake/pond. I even thought that they were a different species for a moment.

Whilst out on the Yorkshire Wolds this morning I saw a mole 'running' across the road. I've seen several over the years, we've even had them in the garden, but this was the first one I'd seen on tarmac. Quite comical to watch, like one of those wind up toys with big spinning feet to propel itself forward

I adore Swifts and we get them above the house from late Spring through to the point when they migrate back to Africa for the winter. It lifts my mood every time I see and hear them.

I particularly like the fact that experts suggest that much of their flying is an entirely social activity and about bonding with their flock, one of few birds where this is the case. And it just looks like so much fun!
