Barnet,
I saw my first Bumblebee yesterday. I though it quite amazing as last weekend was so cold. There was quite a bit of cherry blossom out in the woods for it to gather.

Maverick Goose

A jumped up pantry boy, who never knew his place
A flock of nearly 30 Curlews in a field near Lazonby (in between Carlisle and Penrith)-I've never seen so many in one place before. I probably saw or heard calling nearly 20 more as well during my ride.

Saw my first swallow of the year yesterday afternoon. It flew right over the house just as I got back from a ride to a nature reserve ( Burwell Fen) where I'd been specifically looking out for them!
It's a day earlier than last year.

Ooh. A phenologist amongst us. Fascinating branch of natural history. There was a swallow seen north of me in Cirencester, but I am yet to be honoured. I wonder if those strong southerlies had anything to do with it?

There's a few of us on here keeping notes- I know @User9609 monitors swallows on his patch.
I'm sure the wind direction has helped as well as rinsing temperatures . It's brought a few wheatear and ring ouzels too, though I've not seen any yet. Even a few v. early house martins and a couple of over-shooting Alpine swifts in Cornwall. I'd love to see one of those!
