One of our hedgehogs is back. We know an adult hog drowned in a pond plus it was a pretty harsh winter that went on for a bit. sorry for the poor picture; it is the nature of the beast!

Looks like he was on his way to the small plate of food left out!

@MartinQ Out of interest, what camera captured those films? The one I got just doesn't seem very good. It pleases itself what it records and just ignores whatever settings I enter into it. I'm thinking of getting a different one.

Thanks.

Yesterday...
A Little Egret flew over Alconbury airfield. My first Swallows of the year. I deliberately drove down a back road I know to what I call 'Red Kite Farm'. Someone there...maybe a scrap yard next door MUST be feeding them because they'e a very regular sight there. As I pulled up, camera in hand to look over the fields....whoa, 5 or 6 of them came hurtling out of a gap in the bushes about 15 ft away, and over into an adjacent field. I looked throug the gap in the hedge and saw a couple more on the ground and they quickly loped off. I took some photos but they'e not worth posting...all done very quickly.

This afternoon, driving the A1M, a hundred yards from the same point, there were around 20 or 30 of them wheeling around in a thermal I guess over a nearby field.

One day....i will get some decent photos.

Don't they know they're supposed to be salt-water animals?
I was going to say, I've seen them at Wisbeach which is a fair way from the sea, I know they'e been seen at the Dog in a Doublet near Whittlesea (near Peterborough)....but I see one's been seen in Peterborough as well...i can't post YouTube vids for some reason but there's one of someone' dog swimming with a seal here

I was swimming with my girls in the bay of Mont St Michel in France some years back when a seal surfaced between me and them, not a metre from any of us. It was just a little bewildering for a second. It seemed playful, and swam around us for a minute or two.

Its one of the standard aldi ones ... something like

Its a couple of years old and was ~£60. The first one failed after a year, but I'd kept the receipt and they have a 3 year guarantee, so they replaced with no hassle. Apart from me forgetting to set the year, its good value for the money.
