This pub is near to me. I go in there every now and then. Dogs are allowed in, but I wonder if I took an otter in they'd ask me to leave. 🤔

Nobody was offended by the name. It’s just publicity for their cause. They couldn’t care less they’re being ridiculed they just want the treatment of animals to be talked about.

They write a letter complaining about some made up nonsense then tell a local paper. It’s gets a news story. Gets picked up by more media outlets. Then gets talked about on social media. They’ve got the story to thousands, if not millions. Yes they’re being ridiculed. But that’s a small cost compared with getting people again and again to talk about the treatment of animals.
What’s really funny is they’re not really offended by anything. But it gets people huffing and puffing and all offended by what they do. Those that bemoan others for being easily offended seem to be those who are easily offended the most.

As this thread illustrates, this hasn't prompted a conversation about the treatment of animals.

Rather, it's prompted a conversation bout what nodders PETA are.

Contrary to the old saying, here  is such a thing a bad publicity.

Nah. It’s the same tactic as climate change activists. Been going on for years and years. All about publicity in a world where they have no money compared to those with financial interests.
There’s huge conversations all the time about climate and animal welfare. It wouldn’t be happening anywhere near as much if it weren’t for activists.
Nobody expected even social media to move onto animal welfare but it keeps it in people’s minds long after the silly nonsense they do is forgotten about.

There’s a thread elsewhere about the popularity of being a vegan. Didn’t exist anywhere near as much 10 years ago. What happened? A huge movement of activists doing silly things and shouting loudly. Did it work? Hell yes. There’s now a huge movement evident everywhere you look. Activists did this and pretty much each action they took was ridiculous and ridiculed. Yet here we are. Considering it’s done with little to no money compared to those with financial interests I’d say it was an incredible achievement.

I’m not vegan or vegetarian btw.

Oh absolutely indeedy. Things have moved on, largely for the better, as has the willingness to discuss such issues.

But this sortmof tactic hasn't been responsible for that progress.

I'm not vegetarian either, but respect the right of folk to eat as their taste, preference, health or conscience dictates.
