This is what you need. Perfect for all seasons and you have the choice of rolling up the rear flap, rolling up the sides or taking the full canvas off for the true convertible experience.....

I went to a car auction years ago to bid on a 205 GT but bought a Golf GTI, for less instead thanks to an early edition of the Nottingham Evening Post sold at the auction cafe. It looked like a standard golf - a wolf in sheeps clothing so I had lots of fun at traffic lights - surprising boy racers, but only up to the speed limit - obviously. I sold it on to a VW mechanic who made it look like a wolf in wolfs clothing - spoilers etc.

Oh, and you're welcome to ignore my post about the Saab. The only other convertible I've owned was this Talbot Samba Cabrio (now apparently in France), which is essentially a predecessor of the 206CC. An absolute hoot to drive but totally unreliable. Actually the same comment probably applies to the 206CC.

Thanks you for all your comments on this. It's been an interesting read and informative. I think what I like about the 206cc us the fact its got a solid metal roof that folds away once open..I would of thought it would be a more secure alternative, as to a rag top, and during the winter it would be more like a conventional car without a draughty cold canvas. I think I take a little longer to decide as whether to buy or not. There's no rush but it would nice to enjoy one for summer ( that's if we get one lol:=))

If you're worried about people thinking you have a girls car, then there's an easy solution.

Of the many I mentioned earlier, then the Megane if a folding tin top is important. It's simply a better car than the 206CC.

Something like this:

Put a graaand in his aaaand and I'm sure it would be yours.

I've not read all the other posts, so this may have been covered already.

You mentioned that money is a bit tight. I heard that soft top vehicles are more expensive to insure. Best to get a quote first.

Regarding your original question, if you like something, then go for it. Ignore the ego and what other may think. If you are happy with it, that is all that matters.

When I had my (first) mid-life crisis, I bought a Mazda MX5. Who cares what anyone else thinks? We travelled Europe in that car, wife had one suitcase in boot, I had remaining space for my clothes etc (ie, a carrier bag). It was great fun, and very reliable. Traded it for a BMW, big mistake.

MrsF wanted an MX5 about a decade ago, I bought one for her birthday, she loved it but I think I drove it the most, I'd often drive it in preference to my motorbike, it was great fun. Till I crashed it...............................she is still banging on about 4 years later, I am seriously thinking of getting another for her (me) before the summer. I can't think of any car that gives so much fun for so little money. Considering residuals, parts and reliability, I'd buy an MX5 rather than the Pug.

As for yourself. £1000 for a car? You won’t get much at all. I’d stick to your current car. You know it’s history

I could buy a car with FSH for £1000 and drive it around the world. One of our current cars was bought as a stop gap for £800, had it 4 years now and it's not cost 1p in repairs.
