I had a Merc SLK briefly, decided I didn’t like convertible thing either. Too hot when it was really sunny, cold when not, if windy or if going any speed my hair turned into a birds nest (and wearing caps in cars is just wrong). And I couldn’t cuss loudly at other drivers as people can hear

I think convertibles tend to cost more to insure, so if money is tight check that

As a woman who has petrolhead tendencies, I would say that the 206CC is a bit of a hairdresser mobile

By many on here you are seen as a bad guy just for driving a car, let alone a 2.5 sooty, but somehow that is no worry to you, so why the worry about the CC I do not get it.

Forgot to say having owned lots of convertibles, I hate driving them roof down and not too fussed up.

Whilst I' e not driven a 206, its205 predecessor is great little car to drive and several frienda have done enormouse milleages in them. Albeit it was a bit plastic and rattly. The 206 convertible is available with a hooligan engine which haa considerable appeal, and as alluded to in your title wasn't really favoured by hooligans so could well be a good buy.

Regarding some other alternatives people have mentioned : Saab 93 - the later ones were not nice cars to drive, plasticy and uninvolving. Have test driven both converible and hard top. The older model 93 convertible is a cracking car - though sadly the one I tried had a fault so I turned it down. You'll have to work out the year it went downhill - I think the newer model is basically a vauxhall vectra but the old one is a proper saab

Never mind a Peugeot, get a Ford Streetka! I've seen one i'm thinking of buying.
On the subject of soft tops. I had an Audi 80 convertible. Obviously i didn't have a ride in the back, but those who did said it was like being in a wind tunnel. As for me,it was ok but a bit overrated. Once the novelty wears off that's it. I know some have said they don't/didn't feel safe driving soft tops for various reasons. I had this fear that someone was going to chuck a hand grenade in mine,as i drove along.

My daughter had a 206CC 2001 i think, and loved it. No major problems with the roof, body or engine. Hers was the 2 litre and was really quite perky but no idea of fuel consumption. Very hard ride I remember and lots of knocks and noise from the hard suspension. It didn' seem to bother her TBF, it was her baby.
A colleague has a 206CC, around a 2003 I suspect, he's 50 ish and weighs about 16 stone. He likes it but has spent some fair money on it and it' currently using water but he can' figure where it going. No sludge or foam in the top end, he' mystified but it keeps running ok.
A comment in a former post states theyre a reliable workhorse holds true perhaps. A colleague of mine had a 207 hatchback. I was considering one and asked him how it was. Does everything you need it to , reliable...but its the most boring car i ever owned he replied.
Daughter also just sold her 2007Megane convertible, 2 litre. No major problems, her husband (garage mechanic) did fix the roof once and the automatic rear window did fail once but they traded the car in at that point. She had that about 5 years, good but very heavy car and fuel consumption was high.

Decades ago I had a triumph vitesse convertible and I loved it. Whenever it wasn't actually raining the roof was down, summmer or winter. Would love another convertible, and as mentioned above almost got a saab. (now got hard top saab 95)

How is the 95 on fuel consumption? A guy at work had an older one and was horrified at its mpg. It may have been faulty I guess, I often wondered just out of interest.

In answer to OP, no-one bats an eyelid at my 16 stone colleague who has a 206 CC..tbh, it's a car, a tool, most people really don't care I suspect.
