Why wouldn't you wear a helmet

If you actually research the standards then you will find that there are major differences.
Higher impacts, different anvils, is the strap tested .....

Classically the Snell B95 was the standard to be met by helmets twenty years ago, but now there is not a single helmet on the market that can achieve this standard.

I have researched the standard, more than a decade ago in fact. None of them differ radically in the manner of testing, and even the most stringent doesn't represent much in the way of real life protection, that is unless you fall off and land on an anvil of course.

Or an anvil is dropped on your head, presumably from the Acme Anvil Company.

Alas, he sounds like an utter tool. If I had a cyclist off be it in my own car or a job car I'd be utterly mortified, even if it wasn't my fault. Sounds like you met a right nob, but there's no shortage of them in The Met. Mighty glad now they never accepted me on transfer.

so theyr'e 'nobs' because they wouldnt accept you ?...a sound decision if you ask me

I've been working a day or two a week in Amsterdam, for the last couple of months and i find it interesting that, whilst almost everyone rides a bike, no one wears any thing special to do so. No helmet, no lycra, no clipless shoes, just the same clothes you walk in..

And I don't see the streets littered with head injuries.

However, what you also dont see are cyclists taking it "seriously" or perhaps "treating it like a sport" would be a better expression. Perhaps those that do, wear appropriate gear.

Not sure what this reply says

Interesting but as someone suggested on another thread....arent they all cycling on custom made cycle paths, mainly away from the road at a speed of about 4.5 mph ?

well then you need to bookmark this sub forum:okay:... strangely enough these people all tend to bang their heads on kitchen cupboards....and post about it..I mean how stupid is that eh ! Ive never done that in 50 years...but they all have...

Really, I hope you can give us lots of examples.

And I'm impressed that never hit your head on anything (apart from when riding on your bike I assume)

Pop out to the edges on a weekend, you'll see they both own sporty looking bikes, and wear sporty looking clothing (including plastic hats) when riding them rather than the shoot they ride every day in the city.

We'll be riding in the city next weekend. Without helmets on.
