Apparantly, 'hmeep hmeep' was a preferred spelling.

Oh, it's not resolved. Not in the least! We need much more (diversionary) discussion on this. It goes to the heart of...... something, I'm sure.

Speaking of diversions, I have recently conducted extensive research on ACME as background for a post about the cinematic masterpiece Premium Rush (where if memory serves, all the couriers wore helmets). ACME products were famously failure-prone. This leads me to conclude that a helmet probably wouldn't have been much use to Wile E. Coyote if ACME made them.

And one day, they'll all be dead.

But probably from old age.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Interesting but as someone suggested on another thread....arent they all cycling on custom made cycle paths, mainly away from the road at a speed of about 4.5 mph ?
Nope.

Some...most in fact. But in the centre of town its still a free for all. I guess the point is that, aside from the fact that the continent embraces cycling as a sensible, efficient solution (you are considered a bit daft not to ride) accidents...sorry collisions must still occur and yet protective clothing isn't seen as a requirement.

So I guess its as much about the attitude of the cyclist and not just the other road users...there is a lack of aggression\tribalism on both parts. Education and inclusion is massively advanced on the continent ...and yet this "huge" revolution only began about 20 or so years ago.

I suspect it will take a lot longer in the UK as our attitudes have been programmed for a long time and nothing short of a generation change (or two) will allow reprogramming to the correct level.

If I was to summarise, we need to engender more mutual respect and less tribalism, through long term education.

Inclusion is the key, not segregation.

Phew...im off to have a lie down after that lot.

Pop out to the edges on a weekend, you'll see they both own sporty looking bikes, and wear sporty looking clothing (including plastic hats) when riding them rather than the shoot they ride every day in the city.

We'll be riding in the city next weekend. Without helmets on.
Steady on...no helmet!

Yep, for sure, cycling is also a sport on the continent and like I say, when it is, it likely attracts appropriate sportswear...but the general stuff goes on quite safely without the need.

For the record, I wear a lid when riding but would dream of it if i were to ride through Schiphol\Amsterdam one of their wooden rental bikes
