England stuffed the Aussies at cricket, Team Sky are hauling Chris Froome to a strong position, Clare Balding gets out of your face now that Bat-a-Ball is over and everyone is huffing and puffing about the important things in life. If you want a good opinion about any topic, I suggest readers pay heed to 'Mrs M', ably assisted by @John the Monkey, within the 'Beer' thread.
This is pants.

I must say that all the posters in the "Beer" thread seem invariably jolly and apparently well-adjusted. Either that or drunk all the time, it's hard to tell the difference

I disagree entirely with what you've put here, we're not dealing with polymaths imparting their wisdom to troglodytes, simply a small gang that seem to have made a particular area too toxic for some equally intelligent and capable people to be comfortable visiting and particpating in.

However it serves a useful purpose and keeps the cafe etc more chilled so while not my cuppa, I'm happy to not rock this particular boat.
I was being gentle and agreed, it does serve a purpose.

But why are there posts about why people don't post in SCP?

Or, maybe, why don't more people post about why people don't post in SCP?

Or...

Don't understand why if I was actually interested in reading / responding to internet posts about society, culture and politics I would do it on a cycling website
What if you were a cyclist who was interested in society, culture and politics? Or a person who is interested in cycling as a social, cultural or political practice?

I have popped in occasionally and commented, but it is rare. If you don't agree with the regulars (doesn't matter which side) you get rounded on. It basically turned some people that I thought were decent people into nobbers. To the point that a handful of people now I can't bring myself to like any of their posts even if it is a sensible one not in SC&P. The less I go in the more I start to see these as what they probably are, decent people most of the time.

Maybe I 'never seem to' read your posts, but in fact I do, and I find them interesting and often refreshing. I suppose your point was that, as this is Café, things need to be stated in a bit more obvious way so that people understand more easily, but that could be seen as patronising couldn't it? Who is being rude to whom around here anyway?
Thank you, that's appreciated

No I don't mean that they should be dumbed down, to be honest I think I have come to terms with the fact that in many matters discussed in sc&p I am just not equipped or educated enough to engage and so perhaps should others. I'm not really suggesting any change, merely offering an explanation as to why many who live I sc&p react the way they do to ignorance (and I mean that in the oxford english way, not as an insult til).

I do keep saying it though, this isn't a defence or excuse. In my opinion its poor behaviour that I think will destroy the section as it did once before.

Perhaps people (all of us) need to just be a little less pointed and more patient.

I used to, some time ago, but I don't even look in there now... I'm a bit busier workwise, and also I come here primarily for two reasons:
a) a bit of fun, like a quick mind-break, if you will, before concentrating on what I should be doing
b) to read and find out stuff about cycling.

So there.
