I'm with you there. It simply hasn't been much fun for a while. It doesn't have to be that way, although some people clearly prefer it.
Okay, well this is progress...so given that you are an active contributor who is clearly intelligent or well educated, what would you suggest could be done...by all members...to make sc&p an interesting place to visit without fear of intimidation or being rounded upon just because you don't understand something...which is probably why you went there in the first place.

It's a place for demonstrating one's impeccable PC credentials. The funniest riposte is the standard: "Where's your study to prove what you've just claimed?" .....as if anybody carries out a formal study on any of the twaddle that people talk on web fora, which are, after all, merely virtual pubs. It does give you an insight into the bitchiness and egotism of the academic world.

...and begins a sentence with the word 'So'. There's another pet hate of mine.

Perhaps you could start a list of the trivialities which annoy you. Why not step back from the computer and go for a jog?

I wouldn't necessarily trust all peer reviews... not if my b-in-law's tales of ineptitude, back-stabbing and deceit are true*. I remember reading about Darwin's peer reviews so nothing has changed.

So, thus far people who post in SC&P have been called 'egotistic', 'bickering cliques', 'petty know it alls', 'childish', 'obnoxious', 'full of hate', 'overbearing', 'pretentious' (for using words like 'one' and 'nuanced' apparently), 'petty minded', 'thinking they're big and clever', 'feigning intelligence', 'a toxic gang', 'pseudo intellectual', and 'using cliches'.
Damn we're good!
