I was the first to get ready after P.E. at school. I laid on the slatted bench in the changing room and started pushing myself off the wall to see how fall I slid along the bench. I didn't know but another lad did the same at the other end of the bench. I can still hear that buzzing you get just before losing consiousness 50 years later.

Only once while in a Muay Thai Inter-club championship.

I still don't remember what happened but I'm told it was a helluva left hook.. I woke up 15 mins later in the changing room. ^_^

In 2018 I came off my bike going downhill at about 20mph. I hit the right side of my head on the ground a couple of times before getting up and riding my bike home.

The next day I noticed there was also a crack on the left side of my helmet. I must have been knocked out and rolled over without even realizing it.

I got my bike out of the field lab at work and set off home from work one evening.

I have a vague brief memory of lying on tarmac and being cold.

Then I woke up in a hospital bed.

I have no memory of what happened in between! Apparently, a driver on the main road, where traffic was crawling at about 20mph, had been signalling to turn in, which would have left a gap in the traffic, in which I could cross the road in front of her. Then she changed her mind and sped up to close the gap, which I was then occupying, and collected me on the bonnet of the car. My Moulton AM and her car were both written off. I made a full recovery, apart from a couple of broken teeth.

Hill climb competition near RAF Lynham, Wiltshire, I’m riding for the RAFCC ..
On the way back to the base accommodation ( I’d travelled down from RAF Leuchars, Dundee ) my colleague Mick was riding outside me, on the right, over 20 riders in the bunch.
At the junction we where all were all going straight ahead, Mick turned left !!!
I went down hard landing on my head .. the bunch was scattered and many fell off ...
Never mind, back to the block all showered and dressed for dinner and off to the Mess.
Apparently .... I stood up during the main course, threw up, then collapsed onto the table...( no memory of the event at all )... woke up in Military Hospital Hulavington with very bad concussion .....
oops .......

I was rummaging in our very overfull shed last year when I managed to dislodge the detachable towbar for my Discovery from its resting place on a shelf. I felt a glancing blow to the back of my swede and came to a few second later kneeling on a pile of recycling. Apart from a graze and a bit of headache for the rest of the day no harm seemed to have been done.

I think I may have been knocked out at primary school when I was 10 . We were playing rounders in the playground at dinner time . I was running for home base when a friend barged me and I went flying . I hit the end wall of the girls toilets . The next thing I knew was that I was surrounded by my school mates. I don't know much about it but it must have caused some concern for them to gather round me . All I knew was that I was pretty angry at being barged like that . A teacher came over to see how I was and asked me if I saw stars. Stars! No idea what he was talking about . I was taken back to my classroom and told to stay in and rest . After a few minutes I got bored and went back out to play .

I have been ko'd twice. The first time happened when I was 13. Me and two of my school friends decided to go to Leicester City vs Aston Villa at Filbert Street. At the time I had long hair, leather jacket, cut of denim, typical grebo. As we were walking around the outside of the stadium three skinheads approached us from the other direction, my two mates sensibly walked around them, muggins here walked straight through the middle of them onto one of their fists, they knocked me clean out. What made it worse was I was sparked out by one of my own fans :shy:

The second occasion was an England vs Wales Kyokushinkai full contact karate tournament. I was 34 at the time, extremely fit and strong and had made it to the semi-final with a knockout in quarter-final with a knee to my opponent's face. My opponent was a lad called Terry who was around eighteen, 4 inches shorter than me and a lot lighter. I confidently thought I was going to kick his ass, sadly I was very wrong, the fight lasted all of about thirty seconds, I remember hitting him in the ribs followed with a thigh kick, when he released a laser guided mawashi geri to my temple. The fight was being filmed, was told after I came to that I was unconscious before I even hit the deck. He went on to win the final, nearly knocking out my teammate who was even taller and bigger than me.

I realized after that fight, size and power is no match for ability and speed. One of the best full contact karate practitioners I have every had the honour of watching and competing against.

Nearly KO at the British Open at Crystal Palace.
You say this, but...

My last competitive TKD fight was in 2004. Id gone up the Sheffield for a national level tournament, and being a hulking lad was looking forward to deploying my usual trick of out psyching them with my sheer presence, before using my size advantage to stay out of range of anything meaningful, and my power advantage to kick and smack them into next week. Sheer physics, lovely atuff.

Sadly, my plan went awry.

My opponent was not a hyper agile death ninja. No, I was being played at my own game.

At 6'4", 19 stone, and at the time 54-55 inch chest with mighty guns near on 20 inches, I was an impressive sight. A force of nature that even Jack Reacher wouldn't have messed with. Sadly, my oppoent was 6'9", a massive great lad who bore a surprising resemblance to Michael Clarke Duncan. Now I know how Apollo Creed felt when he stepped in the ring with Ivan Drago.

He gave me a serious taste of my own medicine, and while i wasn't knocked out I was slapped pretty bad. I was black and blue all over, could hardly move the next day. I consoled myself that he'd have killed someone smaller. Indeed, I heard that the next unfortunate that faced him ended up with 2 broken arms when they tried an ill advised high block

In as well into my 30s then, and that was the point that I felt id pushed my luck far enough so I quit and moved my sporting energies into bodybuilding, where my most dangerpus opponent was in the mirror. Damn handsome guy though.

Your question provoked a memory of waking up in hospital with a split lip. I'd tripped at my Grandparents' house and my chin hit the arm of a sofa, I was knocked out and was taken to hospital. I had an x-ray, apparently before coming round. It must have given everyone a fright!

The only other time I am aware of losing consciousness was fainting in the shower at work in December 2016. I have fairly low blood pressure.

It was below freezing and I took a shorter route to work, yet I felt very sick as I approached the office. My hands had got very cold indeed and were quite painful.

I got in the shower to warm up & felt much worse, with waves of nausea (without being sick) and I ended up lying down with my feet in the shower & my head by the door passed out. The floor is hard tiled but my head had landed, thankfully, on a bag of clothes.

When I came round, which must have been after a good five minutes, I had bashed my elbows & there was blood everywhere. I managed to get myself dry and dressed & got some help. The blood supply to my extremities had been diminished by the cold, and heating myself up too quickly had resulted in not enough blood getting to my brain as the capillaries opened up all of a sudden.

Now I know to sit down for a bit to warm up before getting in the shower.

Fell headfirst down a set of concrete nightclub steps in Tenerife, first night there, when I was younger and still couldn’t take my drink! Knocked out, broken nose, broken tooth and 30 stitches inside my mouth for lacerations. Learnt my lesson the hard way :B)

Twice in recent years.

About five/six years ago I woke up in an ambulance, bike beside me, being taken to hospital after a bike fall. Still remember absolutely nothing about the seconds before the crash. OK apart from a trashed helmet, concussion and signs of a slight bleed on the brain on the MRI.

Two months ago felt a bit dizzy in the kitchen, fell like a tree, hitting the back of my head on the tiled kitchen floor and remember nothing until I came to with my wife speaking to the 999 call handler, having just had to pull my tongue from the back of my throat, with a pool of blood under my head. Hospital in an ambulance again, where I stayed in for a week and had a pacemaker fitted because they think the fall might have been triggered by a heart electrical problem. OK now but suffered from the after effects of concussion for a couple of weeks, feeling as if I was slightly disconnected from myself and doing everything in a bit of a fog. Head MRI showed nothing worrying.
