I cycle wherever the mood takes me. Often change course somewhere along the way. That is the advantage of riding solo.

Rural Berkshire, just over into north Hampshire (Hook, Hartley Wintney way basically along the A30) and South Oxfordshire, through Henley into the Chilterns along the Hambleden Valley. Longest loops do the Chilterns and down to the A30.

I love those earlier Scottish route maps. Being stuck in London, I've decided to make a virtue of necessity and adopted a different approach. In a more or less circular area around where I live, I've now ridden every cyclable road in a 78 square mile area around where I live. That would be easy in the countryside but I can tell you that it means thousands and thousands of miles of cycling in an urban area.

So, almost every time I go out for a ride, I go somewhere new yet keep it local and connected. Strangely, I often get lost!

Because the winds predominantly westerly, i usually head west then get a tailwind home.
That generally takes me from Peterborough into Northants or Rutland...always visually interesting and rolling hills riding that way. I see Patrick Pending heads my way...we doubtless overlap each other at some stage.

If the winds easterly, it forces me into the Fens...flat and boring, open and exposed. Never really enjoy a ride that way.
If i fancy something different, head North toward Stamford then east to the Deepings.....or head South to Alconbury, sometimes a little further south.

Most of my cycling is round West Cumbria, sort of between Eskdale and Workington. I also spend some decent time up on the flat bit (Solway plain).

Overall though pretty much anywhere, I'm heading for the Great Glen tomorrow
