There is a double of Frankie Boyle on it. I don't mean an impersonator, I mean frankie Boyle has doubled.

This is the series I look forward to seeing every week at the moment. Tom Hardy is great as the protagonist, and the supporting cast is terrific. (Special mentions must go to Jonathan Pryce's deliciously evil head of the East India company, Tom Hollander's sleazy chemist, and Mark Gatiss' grotesque Prince Regent, although one really could go on and on).

Sense8 (S2) - Netflix
One of last year's Netflix highlights for me, I'd avoided beginning this series because I found it hard to imagine where else it could go. I'm about halfway through the first episode, and it has the same problem as the first series, in that scenes are prone to outstaying their welcome. Thankfully, it still has the same likeable, diverse cast, and inventive take on what being able to share the senses of 7 other people might be like (and how on earth one would go about representing it on screen). I realised, after writing this, that although billed as season 2, there's actually only one episode in it so far, the special released over the Christmas period.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - All4
A series that always seems to suffer from the success of Marvel's cinematic universe (with the big names appearing there, and leaving what can seem to be a sizeable gap in the series' roster). It's ok, and I tune in every week, but it's not a series I rush to watch either, as much as I enjoy Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson, and Fitz and Simmons. In fact, maybe that's the problem - I've not found the main characters (Coulson aside) particularly interesting so far.

Braquo (S3) - Netflix
More splendid policier drama, with the team being drawn into a power struggle within the Russian mob, and the machinations of their antagonist from last season.

Melinda May is quite interesting, especially after her husband was discovered to be 'Lash'

Not sure about the cross-over to Ghost-Rider?
Last weeks episode was good, in the way that the SSR, & Peggy Carter were mentioned

Spot on - plus superb cinematography, brilliant dramatic incidents (the thumb, anyone?), a superb script, that manages to juggle dark & light in a way that keeps you totally alert, and filth, filth, filth everywhere, just as it must have been. Definitely the standout series of the week.

I'm also enjoying that series with the family going back in time - they all seem very sweet, and it's great watching them try to cook things in paper bags and figure out how you actually go about living with servants - and No Offense, which my big sis put me onto. Kind of in the Last Tango/Happy Valley mould, with a razor sharp script and a bevy of rock solid performances. Not quite in the Happy Valley league - but then, what is? - but still a cracker.

By contrast, watched the launch of the 'much anticipated' remake of Roots last night. Bit of a let down. Not that it was crap, it was just a bit pedestrian, a bit workmanlike, a bit going thru' the motions. Should be far more engaging and moving than that, given what it's depicting. Just one more illustration, as if it were needed, that ultimately it all comes down to the script. Flat script, flat show; killer script, whatever it is, if the actors do their jobs it'll leap out of the set and grab you by the throat.

I'm just not feeling it - this series is better (so far), but I think the problem for me is that the interesting stories often seem peripheral - I'm not that interested in Daisy, at least not so far.

Anyroad, I've been bingeing "The Santa Clarita Diet" (Netflix).

Zombies, again, but on the iZombie side of things. I like it - Drew Barrymore and Timothy Oliphant are good, with their characters' relative enthusiasm / caution making for an interesting dynamic and the supporting cast do a good job (particularly the two teens). I'm sure there are wobbles that the immersion of binge watching is covering up, but so far, this is light (if gory) and rather fun,

I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
The Expanse, really good start to the new season with the crew finally starting to ...erm, 'connect' even Miller and Amos (Amos even called the Cap, Cap!). The Martian Navy are interesting and the early introduction of Bobby into the story wont draw complaint from me as she is one of my favourite characters. Its a double episode so looking forward to watching the second half tonight.

Just watched the final episode of Unforgotten, really enjoyed this show, even better than the first series.

Nicola Walker was great as ever, even the bloke from The Kumar's turned out ok in the end ^_^

ps- can always tell when a show has grabbed me as I watch it the same night it airs, other shows I'm happy to record and watch 'when I get round to it'

I didn't manage to watch Roots, but recorded it to watch later. I saw a little bit tough where a slave was being flogged because he wouldn't say the name that was given to him by his "masters" ?? It seems incredibly brutal and depressing and I'm not sure I really want to watch it now.
