Vigil.

Enjoyed S1 but S2 is a damp squib.

Suranne Jones works for me as a sleuth (although the occasional smile would be nice) but Dougray Scott is miscast as a very senior military officer who displays no gravitas or bearing whatsoever.

Being the BBC we now have 2 LGBT+ plot lines instead of the 1 in the first series, neither of which add to the storyline.

We've only done S1 + S2ep1. So, in order:
- if you haven't seen Suranne in her other sleuth role (Thelma+ Louise? No, Scott and Bailey I think it was called) you are in for a treat.
- Not sure I'm a big Dougray fan generally, but in this he seems very ill-suited. Just on Ep1 mind, he'll probably get better lines later.
- It's been a while now, but I do seem to recall that the romance story-line in Series1 was utterly pointless. This week's is already irritating with all the tedious "no, I'm only preggers, I can still walk throu a forest dear!" back-n-forth.

Anyway, this had enough promise for us to persevere, but I'm always circumspect with any heavily "tech"-based plots. They need to be VERY well thought-thru to convince. Was anyone else distracted by Robocop deja-vu?!?

PTSD is thrown into the mix too, again it adds nothing.

Some hilarious spoofy tech' moments too eg close-by bomb blast floors 4 or 5 of the cast who rise simultaneously from the floor and simply brush themselves down and a bullet (being inspected as evidence) from a close range shot from a "high powered hunting rifle" barely penetrates & protrudes from a tree - I think not on both counts. Okay, it's BBC prime-time viewing and R rated graphical scenes are not the order of the day but come on, don't treat viewers like children.

3/10, could've been as good as S1 but an opportunity missed.

Also could someone at the BBC please learn how to fit a beret correctly, it's not supposed to look like a mushroom, nor is the badge supposed to be at the side of your head, or above your nose, it goes over your left eye :okay:

I haven't watched anything with Suranne since Corrie (Karen 'The Mouth' McDonald') so I've been enjoying Vigil as it shows she doesn't always shout. I watched the first 3 episodes of S2 Vigil and have now gone back to S1. S2 I've been enjoying trying to guess who/what might have done it, S2 I've been doing well with my guesses but S1 I think will be a bit harder to fathom (lol) out.

Dougray Scott really needs to get his teeth cleaned though, the plaque on them is disgusting! Other details like wrong caps or badges don't bother me as I don't know any better, but I have seen the odd headline on some of the national rags about the 'outrage as Vigil disrepects our boys!' but it's TV, not a memorial show.

It's made by World Productions who according to Wiki are owned by ITV!

Stumbled upon Hidden Assets on BBC I player only watched 4 episodes so far seems quite good, not sure how old it is or when it was originally released?

So, Vigil Series2 wrapped - brilliant!!! Totally enjoyed this.
It started a little clunky with the drones feeling like a distraction/McGuffin, but the 2nd half was much more like a decent almost "old-fashioned" action/espionage thriller (with a little added LGBT+ sub-plots ;-) )

(and I deeply hope that the shenanigans on the Hercules featured numerous "gaffs" aka differences from real RAF planes/procedures etc etc ... )

My wife is watching Eastenders. I just can't imagine how anyone can watch a bunch of endless neurotic characters and agonising storylines. What a load of old tosh. It's about as much fun as pulling your own toenails off.

I've been saving it for a Christmas watch, I've also got S1 lined up on the watch list too.
