We've just finished Katla; an Icelandic sci-fi ish series set in the vicinity of the eponymous volcano. People believed dead start appearing covered in ash and various drama ensues. Without giving too much away it's more or less Solaris set in Iceland. Great acting, good storytelling, and keeps you watching. The filming of Icelandic scenery with everything filthy from ash adds to the atmosphere.
Some nice details: a Swedish lady gets involved, so she and the Icelanders have to speak in English. Another detail that particularly appealed to me was when the geologist abseils into the crevasse to take some samples whilst holding a drill and various tools, there's the faff and awkwardness of trying to not bounce around and still hold the drill to get the job done. No excess drama, nor James Bondesque commando raid abseiling just a realistic portrayal of doing a job hanging on a rope (something I am familiar with both caving and doing jobs on my house - I hate it when abseiling is badly portrayed in films)
Was a bit worried the ending would be a let down, but it was handled pretty well, enigmatic yes, but plays fair with the audience
Anyhow, broadly recommended
