Star Trek: Strange New worlds.

A simple idea, lets do the Christopher Pike years. You don't have to have seen Discovery season 2 which has the Enterprise under command of Pike show up, but it helps a little with this spin-off. This show is a true return to form for Trek. The episodic format returns, great cast with strong characters and stories which flesh out, like most prequels, the 'gaps' in Trek history. There are fun easter eggs and nods of the hat to the original, but most of all, its good fun.

But its the look of the show that blew me away...they must spend a fortune on this. In the same way ST TNG was a leap on from the original in budget & production values, ST SNW is a massive jump forwards. The production levels are very high indeed and it has the 'retro-futuristic' look of the 2009 movie, classic stuff but all suitably updated for now. I love the little design references and the whole show just looks gorgeous.

Detectorists - a smashing and gentle comedy. We thought it would be all about metal detecting and had never thought it would be of interest. During a visit to Framlingham Castle, we saw the vehicles for filming parked in a distant field, the Castle Guide told us it was for Detectorists which is filmed nearby and after watching one episode we were hooked! Lots of the local features are in the series, especially the pub and the Village hall which are both near the Castle (name of pub changed of course), although most of the businesses in the village show their actual names in the series.

This reminds me - I was watching BBC4 the other night with Alice Roberts and her show Digging for the Past or something - one of the archaelogists had a DMDC teeshirt on - the metal detecting club from Detectorists.
(and definitely not the Dirtsharks !)

Robot Wars

Found S7 of the old series, there's a certain charm to Craig Charles and Jonathan Davies presentation that the later series didn't have, S7 was the one shown on Channel 5 after the BBC dropped it (for the first time).

Edit - Johnathan Pierce! I don't think the lead singer of Korn was the the commentator!
Love Robot Wars. Craig Charles was a huge improvement over Jeremy Clarkson who presented the first series, badly. Quite like the Dara years and it was a shame it was eventually axed. It's the only sport i've really got into. I have dipped into Battle Bots, the USA version, which is poor in comparison.

I liked Craig Charles on Robot Wars, he approached the show with the right amount of seriousness and bants. Dara was a (renta-kit?) presenter and, to me, didn't really show a real warmth for the contestants nor what they did and the continual "give up for..." got on my nerves quite quickly.

I've been watching For All Mankind. Started with an interesting premise (and predicted Queen Camilla!!) but is, for me anyway, getting increasingly silly.... think Rab C Nesbitt in space. At least I hope you don't to go into space on a whim and the nod of a mate. I'll probably see out season 2 but not sure about 3.

I went back and watched Series 1 Episode 1, I like Jeremy Clarkson but hes really condescending towards the competitors. I watched a couple of the 2016 revival episodes as well and was taken aback just how more advanced the robots were compared to the 1996-2004 era. Craig Charles and Phillipa Forrester are easily the best presenters.

Battlebots I've watched on/off for a number of years, they go a step above the British Robot Wars in terms of damage. They also have a lot more pagentry and showmanship which might not to be everyone's tastes.

I've watched the whole lot in recent years. The evolution from stabbers and purely defensive bots to high powered flippers and spinners throughout all the series was excellent... and when we first witnessed Chaos2 hurling everything right out of the arena, and Hypnodisc just tearing everything to shreds was nothing short of awesome.

I loved it. Binge watched and I would actually watch it all again I enjoyed it so much. Loved Redemption too.

That sounds good, Don't think we've seen Redemption so will give that a whirl after, North and South balance!

Blue Light also gives the opportunity to menacing say "I know where you live" in my best Belfast accent at random points....^_^
