"Our Friends in the North" on BBC iplayer, is an excellent series even after all these years.

(Pity about the bad wigs in the later episodes.)

Great series, with some great actors.Allways liked this trivia.
"Mark Strong revealed in an interview that Christopher Eccleston took a dislike to him, and outside of their scenes together the pair did not speak for the entire production. Eccleston for his part stated that they mutually disliked each other, as their characters did and suspected that Strong was jealous of him."

Never got into it for some reason - but what a cast!?!
(Did Craig do a Geordie accent?)
I know Mark Strong who I love as a actor said he learned his Geordie accent from watching
Auf Wiedersehen Pet !

Thought it was a brilliant series when it was on, but out of them all I could have only pointed out Gina McKee as being in it, in fact I thought it was some other characters entirely

Thursday evening
The Patrick Stewart (1999) version of 'A Christmas Carol', with wife

Friday
'Trucking Hell'
(from Thursday night, as I'd gone to bed before it started)
The narration's better than it was, but we still hear about;
"50 ton winch cables" (no wonder they struggle to pull them out, if they weigh that much!!)
"This Arctic has gone off the road" (a cold one??!!)
The editing's still appalling though!!!!! ( a truck is on the coach-stands, then it's not, then we see it on the underlift, then it's not, etc...)

Last night A Ghost Story for Christmas....Mark Gatiss who I think is a genius !
I liked it anyway.

will check that out. (although he did f*ck up Sherlock towards the end)

I enjoyed Inside No9's xmas episode. Simon Callow was excellent as always.

Also watched the first episode of the new series of His Dark Materials. Is this going to be the final series?

Sherlock probably went on too long ? But I generally like Gatiss and what he does, his obsession with horror, loved his take on Dracula !
Never watched Dark Materials though, any good ?

Sherlock definitely went on too long. Dracula was great until the final instalment (IMO)... it just seemed so average in comparison to the gothic episodes.

I've been thoroughly enjoying His Dark Materials... but it's not for everyone. If you like it you like it, if you don't you don't.

That Dracula is one of the few things on TV that outshone Sherlock. IMO!

Dark Materials is a pretty decent stab at a book you'd think was even harder to adapt than LOTR; lots of parallel worlds, weird races, talking animals ... quite a challenge!
(Ok - three books.)

P.s. I gave up on The English at Ep3 ; for the reasons previously discussed... !

Agreed about Dracula....thought it was brill.Funny and gory in equal parts....
Shame about The English....I enjoyed it.

Bridge at Remegen. An oldie but a goodie.

Not shown in the movie is the German counter attack to try and retake the bridge. They threw everything at the US army, V2, jet bombers, underwater demolition divers, giant mortars, explosive barges. US Army created the most concentrated intense AA system of the war and used all manner of other secret weapons to hold on until the bridge collapsed.
