I've got up to about 46mph, downhill obviously and it doesn't happen very often. It scares me too much!

It's the brakes on the road bikes that bother me more than the tyres for me, my road bikes takes a fortnight to stop 20% hills, my mtb stops on a ten bob bit at any speed.

Yeah rim brakes on slightly out of true wheels + lots of speed = nervousness! Why road bikes don't all adopt decent disc brakes is beyond me? I'm sure someone will tell me why they don't.

Give it time. Hydraulics for road bikes have really only just been developed, and I believe some 2015 bikes will come equipped with them. In the mean time there are road frame options (albeit slightly more CX oriented) with disc mounting points that you could fit e.g. Avid BB7's to. Although a better (or cheaper) option might just be to true your wheels. ;)

Back to the OP, I believe my top speed has gone up since the last thread. Think it's around 45mph now.

My last 10 of the season a couple of weeks ago, hard wind to the turn, but maxed 32mph on the way back. Didn't compensate for the 18mph avg going out, but it was nice feeling while it lasted and I can just imagine what the fast lads experience when they average that for the whole ride!

I've done 99mph on Coolsingel , the main drag in Rotterdam.
That's what it said on my utterly reliable wireless Cateye as I waited at a junction for the lights to change, I've never been able to replicate that performance.

39.6 mph. I don't trust speeds based purely on gps, they seem to always be faster than my wheel speed even when I'm side by side with someone

As I'm starting out I'll be the tortoise and say my fastest mile split is 6mph which I was pleased with.. I don't know the fastest speed though soz.
