The Viner Mitus I'm putting together as a 'new' winter bike has had some touch-up paint, together with an Ultegra crankset taken off my Dawes Giro. Photos once the build gets started proper with Shimano 105 shifters / derailleurs plus other parts, unless I pick up something better in-between.

Also, I've cleaned my Ridgeback Platinum and swapped the Shimano 105 crankset for a Dura-Ace one. As the cranks are different length (172.5 old vs. 170 new) I'll probably need some adjustments. Or find a 172.5mm one off either the NeilPryde Nazaré or Thompson Capella. Doing the swap saves only 150g but it all adds up; a different crankset, new Velo Orange brakes, different wheels and lighter bottle cages have saved about 600g since I rode London-Edinburgh-London on it in 2017. Over 1200km on a heavy hector of a touring bike that matters!

The Dawes Giro 400 bike I was using on Zwift has had the CeramicSpeed bottom bracket removed; that'll be kept for my Raleigh SP Race as the Raleigh is now on the smart turbo instead. Over the next few days the Dawes will be stripped down and re-sold, with the rest of the groupset going onto the Viner. No rush, but I'd like to get it finished before the summer.

Finally, with a lot of help from the university shared workshop I have access to in Leeds, the recalcitrant / massively stuck bottom bracket on the Peugeot Optimum is now out and the frame re-threaded. That'll get a replacement square taper bottom bracket rather than the old cage-style one, with a different crankset, over the next week or so. After which it'll probably stay as a vintage / bad weather roadie until I can find something really nice.

Why not get a lighter audax bike?

A Cannondale synapse hi mod would be ideal?

I have a similar geometry six and it's been a great long distance tourer all be it a bit heavy.

The freehub I cleaned up and reinstalled 2 months ago gave up at the end.of the street this morning. Tried flooding it as best I could with gt85 and diesel to no avail.

So the spare wheel with the snow studs went back on.

Just stripped the wheel down for rebuilding with a replacement FH unit tomorrow.

@Jameshow - I've thought about doing that, but have spent cash upgrading both the road bikes I have from Shimano 105 to Dura-Ace groupsets. It's a Ridgeback Platinum and is OK, but just a bit heavier than some. The challenge is that it's supremely comfortable and, for anything over about 300km, that's really helpful. Note that the 18kg is 'fully loaded' meaning rear bag with all my kit, frame bag, lights, etc. The actual bike is in the low 9kg now with the changes.

Do you notice the improvement with da over 105?

Shifting is definitely better - it just feels faster and more accurate. I've moved from 11 speed Shimano 5800 to 9000.

this is probably going up for sale if you want some more Peugeot. Since then its had the wheels rebuilt on the same hubs, but with new spokes and new but appropriate looking rims. I am finding I don't ride it anymore.

I’ve been hearing a slight creaking sound from the front end of my Tricross, this seemed to disappear when riding with no hands.
So bar bag off, Garmin mount loosened and rotated out of the way, stem face plate removed, bars off, all parts thoroughly cleaned and a little smear of grease applied to the contact points.
All seems good after last nights test ride 👍
