The lbs told me to keep an eye on my front rim as it would need replacing soon. The shop had serviced the bearings. They had a good point as there was a distinct v groove. That was over a year ago and it has never seemed to get any worse and the bearings were extremely smooth. However, I decided to replace it tonight, so I swapped the tyre over to another rim and realigned the pads.

Swapped over a scratched Cinelli quill stem, it was more straightforward than I originally anticipated. I also managed to reuse the bar tape.

The LH pedal on my Holdsworth Roi de Velo track bike feels bent/cracked, possibly from a crash a while back. So I swapped it this morning, finding out they were Shimano 105 whereas I thought they were Dura-Ace. So ... a pair of Dura-Ace 9000 pedals is now on and I've an hour at Manchester velodrome this evening to test them.

I modified a set of Shimano SPD SL cleat covers to fit Look Keo pedals, I had them in the garage, so I was determined not to buy another set, 20 minutes with a Dremel and they fit perfectly.

This shows before and after, I took a couple of mm of the front and took the corners off the rear and they fitted perfectly.

I've been using a 1970ish Harry Hall bike as a winter turbo trainer for a while (in reality hardly using it at all:whistle:). Have just been given an Orbit 531 f&f so yesterday and today swapped all the kit from the HH to the Orbit in preparation for hardly using it again this winter. I also took the opportunity to true the wheels which has not been any sort of priority really for a turbo trainer.

The HH will probably be put up for sale soon as it was originally meant for a project which will not happen.

The winter bike was having shifting issues yesterday , although the chain length is ok when im in the 2 easiest gears in the big ring its as if the RD cage is rubbing on the gears so im going to check the b screw .When i dropped to the small ring the chain jumped off the cassette and went into the spoke even though the L stop is set, its like the mech didnt take the slack up quick enough .

well i sorted the rubbing with the b screw and set the RD height from the cassette but it still doesnt like to shift from big/ big onto the next sprocket , it shifts but is hesitant just in that one combination ??
In other news i greased the front wheel bearings and headset on the commuter as i noticed a ticking noise from the front wheel every revolution but it seems to be coming from the rim , i checked the trueness and thats fine so im at a loss on that one too .

With 'chambered' rims you can get little bits of ally from where they stamped the rim holes out or even an errant spoke nipple from when the wheel was built rattling around in the chamber.

A bit of enforced fettling tonight. Amazingly I got no p'tures on Friday cycling to work through lots of floods, the tyre was solid at night. Took the short route to a nearer station at night which only involved one flood but on a cycle path and typically I must have picked up a p'ture there. I put a new tube in the tyre tonight in the comfort of my house.

Over the weekend I've set up the Tacx Flux T2900 turbo trainer I bought this week, converting it back from thru-axle to QR and putting an 11-speed cassette on rather than the 10-speed it came with. All done and now working with my Merida Scultura bike that lives on the turbo.

The NeilPryde Nazaré also got a new KMC X11-EL chain plus front derailleur adjustment and it should be ready for winter storage soon.

Finally, I've finished the Raleigh SBDU bike, adding cables and a 10-speed KMC X10-EL chain plus the American Classic carbon/aluminium wheels from my Ridgeback Platinum. Apologies to the purists but we've gone 10 or 11 speed with every road/cyclocross bike this year and it's meant streamlining parts with the build cost covered by selling unwanted items. The chain may need a link removing but I'll do that after a proper test ride. A Raleigh micro saddle bag's en route as well.

Would it be a crime to get mine resprayed the same colour as yours?
Such a lovely bike!
But ride over on mine and compare bikes!

Good idea - we just need to sort a date and a meeting point?

I've not done a proper road test, but I'll find a dry day to have a ride out. Also, I need to find a matching pink-ish colour, probably nail varnish? It's not as nice a frame as in the photos, with quite a number of paint chips, but wanted to get it built for now.

2 x MR129 6804's arrived today alongside with two headset bearings, the latter I'll get round to replacing soon.

The FSA BB bearing, despite being called a 6804, there is a difference, and the important bit is the MR129, as the inner diameter is 19mm, and not 20mm as on the normal 6804 and they have a 'lip' on one side that the extra FSA dust seal clips into. The FSA axel diameter is slightly narrower than Shimano. Doddle to replace, and the BB is nice and smooth again.

its an old wheel , its more like a tick tick sound but its not catching on anything and i cut the mould points off the tyre.

Anyway whatever i did yesterday has stopped the creaking at least
