Rolls Royce cars are too expensive now. If I'd wanted one in 1912 I could've afforded the £6,206 ;) , but I couldn't afford the £255,000 needed to buy the entry level one now.

A very good salary in 1912 would have been about £200 per year. So that is 30 years of a better than average salary.

The average salary now is about £27,000, so only about 9 years of an average salary.

£6206 was a hell of a lot of money though in 1912. With inflation, in today's money that is £561,022.34 :surrender:

Indeed £200 a year was a very decent salary in 1912. works out at over £18,000 a year. Not massive progress in over 100 years really, but then we have had two world wars in that time.

Chip shop chips.
I cannot remember the last time I got nice, firm, golden chips.
Our 'local' chippy does nice fish AND nice peas but the chips are iffy at best.
They do large fritters so we have decided to try them instead of chips next time.

KFC, I used to have it maybe twice a month but haven't for ages.

Yesterday I had a look at the app, £7.99 for a bucket for one, it's not so long ago that it was £5.99.

I know everything's gone up but 33%, cheeky thieving colonel. 😲

Takeaway, they don't have the option to eat in. So you then have the added bonus of fighting off the aggressive seagulls for ownership of your gold plated fish & chips.

Yes indeed. I tried the fish and chips on the seafront thing when I was in Largs last June. I can't remember what take away I used but the food was good if pricey. It was just a shame I'd forgotten to pack my twelve-bore to deal with gulls.:gun:

I think you have a much more determined breed of seagull in Ayrshire.

I dunno... The seagulls in Dover are a right pushy bunch...

Waiting in the loading queue for the ferry, if they see someone eating inside their car, they'll stand on the bonnet and keep tapping on the windscreen with their beak. Quite often, people give them something just to get the little sods to piss off. And if your window is wound down, they'll try and help themselves.

Here it's the swans down the riverside that'll swipe your snacks / chips / ice creams...

When I buy fish and chips from a local chippy I can always taste preservatives. It must be in the batter mix as why would they add preservatives to bought and sold on the day fish, raw spuds or cooking oil. 🤔

4 of us a while ago had a pre-set meal (Meal, drink, side) each with nothing else and it was £38. I was a little shocked if I’m honest. Not much volume to it either - and I was anything but stuffed. Won’t be doing that again for a takeout I promise….

A can of custard fer chrissakes...
Went to Iceland, Sunday dinner beckons for us and two if the grandkids.
£1.65 ...for a can of custard.
Has the world gone mad ? It was Devon custard tbf but a few months ago you could buy Asda own brand for about 50p, the expensive stuff £1. So where did 65% inflation come from.
Didn't buy it, wouldn't buy it, fork that.
Went to Nisa, brought it cheaper, not much cheaper tho  felt slightly better on principle.

Those multipacks of 4 Snickers/Mars, which once the packaging is removed reveal 4 very small "bars".... They are now £1.95 in our local Morrisons. WTF!! They were £1 not so long ago.
On same visit, Tilda microwave rice up from £1 last week to £1.25 today.
Another 2 items off the shopping list. Well done Morrisons, you're saving me a fortune!

Binned off our so called 'award winning' chippy as their chips are like frozen ones and all 'bits' rather than big chips. They are also incredibly slow given the staff. Been using another chippy thats twice as far, but small. The owner and 2 to 3 staff, and they have always got fish on the go. No ordering and waiting. Oh and propper chips. Not cheap though. Two fish, two large chips, jumbo sausage and two large peas £19.50. It does feed 4 adults though.
