Not been to anything in nearly two months, but it all kicks off again next week - below is my gig list for the rest of the year. With the exception of The Bug Club in Norwich, they're all away days with a train each way, a few drinks and relax at a hotel afterwards rather than having to drive straight home. Much prefer to do it this way these days.

The Cluny is a cracking venue, quite often the performers are just milling around in the bar before the gig which is cool.

Leo Sayer tonight in Liverpool. By God, he hasn't lost it, he still has an absolutely amazing voice.
Good to know he's still touring. He was the first gig I ever went to back in the 80s. I won the tickets in a school Christmas raffle and was the subject of much ridicule at the time (he really wasn't cool to teenagers) but I remember it being a good show.

A quick Google suggests it must have been 1983 because it was after his come back hit Orchard Road.

Just back from Alice Cooper at Hammersmith Apollo. Fantastic show. I was surprised at how much of his music I actually knew, as he's not someone I particularly listen to although wife is a big fan

We went to see Joe Jackson on Sunday. A show of two halves as it were. First half was Joe on his own playing keyboards and doing all his hit songs, and a couple of covers including an excellent rendition of Waterloo Sunset. Then, with a fairly theatrical scene change culminating into a colourful (I was reminded if Dorothy's arrival in Oz) his latest work, a supposed recreation of Edwardian music halls songs by Max Champion, who is of course Joe's fictional alter-ego, with him and the band dressed up like the show "The Good old Days".
It was very good fun and the band were both showmen and very tight and together musicians. It was great to see him again some 40+ years after I last saw him in Aberystwyth doing his Jumping Jive tour of swing band era music.

He's a terrific songwriter, pianist and singer, and as Max Champion quite a showman too. Not sure I totally likes his music hall songs, more "inspired by" than pastiche, but it was still a hugely enjoyable evening and hearing his old stuff again reminded me how innovative and clever his music is

Here's some youtubes of the same tour albeit not the actual gig:

one of his Max Champion songs

and "Max Champion" doing Jackson's old classic "Is she really going out with him"

A rather bizarre evening but we really enjoyed it and I was pleased to see Joe is still doing great shows and innovative music

My upcoming pre christmas eclectic line up is Deep Purple at the O2 and then Shed Seven in Oxford. I did have Reverend and The Makers squeezed in between them, but sadly tour cancelled due to death of his father.

I've got Shed Seven coming up, seeing them in Bournemouth. One of my favourite live bands.

Gosh, I remember seeing them in Edinburgh almost exactly 50 years ago. Not because I particularly wanted to, but my little brother did and he was judged to be too young to be allowed to go to a gig on his own.

I wouldn't have been allowed to go either then- I was 5!

EMF on short tour, missed Echobelly but did see Jesus Jones. Got to meet James Atkins beforehand, due to knowing the drummer through local legends Drum Machine that he runs & leads. Nostalgic fun with decent new material. Crowd usual mix of Middle Ages reliving youth & building to a monster hangover!

Not heard of that venue before. I see the Blackwater Country are playing there next weekend, a band I keep be recommended but not got around to seeing.

Yes, they are on my list to see, but it's a bit of a trek from Cardiff so I don't know if I want to do it two weekends in a row
