Watched "Uncharted" on C4 Freeview last night.

Well enough made, famous cast but totally uninspiring. 110% predictable. Very "me too" type of adventure film. Bit of a waste of time, should have just read a book.

I went to see one of my all-time favourite movies, the classic Casablanca, at the cinema on Friday. What a treat to see it on the big screen. Ingrid Bergman is superb, Bogart plays the cynical bar owner well and Claud Rains is casting perfection as Captain Renault.

I’d post a clip here but which to choose?

”Here’s looking at you, kid.”

Like me, you might be tickled by the Freeview summary of this much-overlooked movie:

(2022) Going-for-gold action adventure. Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg compare abs while scouring the globe for an olde explorer's lost gold. The heat is on. The time is right. Only the best survive.

Sounds right up your street Ian! ;-)

I watched an enjoyable film this afternoon called the Bargees.
It was a light hearted comedy of life on the narrow boats starring Harry H Corbett, Ronnie Barker and a few other well known faces from the past

A lighthearted way to pass the time on a Sunday afternoon, not normally my kind of film but it has the added bonus of the lovely Olivia Colman in it as well.

6/10.

Just found Dogma on Youtube, the entire movie. Lots of mirth the first time I saw it, circa 2000.
Might be worth a second viewing if only it wasn't such a rubbish quality file.

Ooh, there's a better copy on on the Internet Archive.

Better Man - 7/10

Beyond knowing that he was in Take That and a bit of a hellraiser I knew very little about Robbie Williams before watching this. And I still didn't learn much from the film, with my fiancée (who's bang on his demographic) filling in the blanks with information.

That said, even if this wasn't his story, it's a great take on addiction, betrayal and recovery with a pretty incredible soundtrack. I also appreciate that it seems to be an unflinching look at his struggles, which could easily have been glossed over or not especially accurate, a la Bohemian Rhapsody and Straight Outta Compton.

Some of the visuals effects fall a bit flat and the emotional pulls are about as subtle as a brick in the face, but that doesn't stop it from being an interesting and entertaining way to spend a couple of hours.

Plus it confused vacuous Americans, which is always funny:

One of my all-time most brilliant films. And one of the few I can re-watch every now and again.
