What film did you watch last night?

Anatomy of a Fall. 8/10. Man falls from balcony, wife is a suspect. Most of the film is a courtroom drama but it goes into a lot of detail about the relationship. Probably because it's French, and much of it subtitled, it feels more realistic without the American style "you can't handle the truth" sensationalism in the court

There are some which pop up at regular intervals when channel surfing & I always delve into them. Its like Sarah Millican says, even if you've see it a million times and have the DVD, if its on, you're watching:

Crack in the World: pops up all the time, enjoyable doom-laden sci-fi disaster shenanigans about a geology experiment gone wrong, no CGI, dodgy FX, no real science but fun 1960's end-of-world flick.

Island of Terror: Pesky accidentally - engineered silicon life gives old Pete Cushing a hard time. Slowest monsters you'll ever see but emanate a weird 1960's spacey-sound effect.

Gorgo : UK answer to Godzilla, bloke in rubber monster suit trashes model set of London.

Saw Conclave at the cinema last night. Excellent film. Great acting by Fiennes - I can see why he got an Oscar nomination.
Now I need to see The Brutalist but I hear it's three and a half hours long. It has an intermission !

Number 24 on Netflix is the story of Gunnar Sonsteby a member of the Norwegian resistance and Norway's most highly decorated civilian. Excellent.

Nowhere special on the iPlayer, about a dad with months to live trying to find a new family for his three year old.

Babygirl - 6.5/10

Whenever films about kink in relationships (dom/sub for this one) gets a mainstream airing I'm interested to see if they get it close to right. Normally you get utter nonsense like 50 Shades of Grey (though the source material wasn't much to work with) or you get brilliance like Secretary (which is still to be bested).

This is way closer to Secretary in terms of accuracy and understanding but it's just not particularly memorable. There are a few standout scenes but overall it just feels a bit muddled which is a shame.

Nosferatu - 7/10

I'm in two minds about this. It's well paced, sinister and gloriously dark, however it's not the first adult/proper vampire film I've seen: if it was I think I'd have been a lot more impressed.

Still, it's well worth a watch and a lovely nod to old school horror in a genre which is becoming increasingly saturated with gimmicks, sequels and cautionary tales about tech. I also enjoyed having my faith in Bill Skarsgard restored after his turn in the disastrously bad Crow remake, which did nobody any favours.

Just watched "Deliverance". I've seen lots of references to the film lately and thought I'd give it a go. It had 7.something on IMDb.

I would give it a 5/10. The script is a bit weird, nothing much happens. It is of it's time, and has some redeeming qualities but generally I found it quite boring. They could have done so much more with the story.
