Which got me thinking....😁
Do any films work better than the book ?
Not many for me,rarely does a film do a book I've read justice.
Of the top of my head The Shining...loved the book and the film but that's a rare one for me.King and Kubrick being masters of their art.

The Princess Bride is possibly the best book I've read... but if the film was like the book, it simply would not work.

How was it? I've read the book and watched the original Swedish movie. Have they fully sanitised it? I don't understand why they had to change the name of the main character, what's wrong with Ove?

There already was a film by the name “A Man Called Ove”, but you might need subtitles 😉
Not seen that, but I did enjoy the Tom Hanks version👍
That said, Hanks rarely has a duff film, IMHO!

War of the Worlds. Hadn't seen it for years, forgot how good it was. Apart from the annoying children

One thing that bugged me about the movie. When Robbie wanted to go see/join the fight that was going on over the other side of the hill. I though we where going to see a great battle set piece..... but we don't. Always disappointed me that. ^_^

I've not read the book but the film is brilliant.

I find the sequence can sometimes affect how one feels about the same story on different media. For me often if I read the book first then the film can be a disappointment probably because the book is full of nuisance that the film can't capture and that necessarily film often have to simplify the story. See the film first then read the book works better for me as the book fills-in the gaps, elaborates and explains aspects of the film.

But (for me) Dune is an exception in that I read the book(s) before seeing the filmyet love the books and all film versions. All film versions have limitations but all are worthy effors I enjoy.

I remember when Barry Norman was doing his TV film review program and he reviewed the David Lynch Dune film and ... "And announcing the results of our competition to explain what Dune was all about and congratulations to David Lynch who managed 3rd place price" (words to that effect)

He also didn't die, then fast travelled to his grandads house and met the rest of them later 🤔

The biggest disappointment to me in that film is there is no Thunderchild, the Americans did a whole film later (Battleship) about ships fighting aliens but they couldn't get the first one right😠
