Steven Spielberg ‘West Side Story’. The acting, singing, and dancing are terrific, and Steven Spielberg's West Side Story updates the original without losing its heart.

Lad - A Yorkshire Story

Nice little film about a family where the dad dies, and explores how the youngest boy (13) copes with that. It was filmed around Settle so as well as being pretty good its also very pretty!

Exorcist: Believer (2023). Not as good as the old ones but worth a watch if you're in to that sort of thing. It's a slow starter and does rely on some needless and rather random jump scares. When it gets going though, it is quite disturbing. There's a little twist at the end that made it a bit more interesting, taking it from 3* territory to 4*

The Bikeriders - 6/10

Entertaining enough but a very sanitised version of the biker scene and how it evolved. I wasn't expecting much as Tom Hardy really needs a quality director to get the best out of him, and having seen a few of Nichols' previous efforts I was pretty optimistic, but this all felt a bit tame.

It reminded me a bit of Saltburn in that it's pretty shocking if you haven't seen worse, but those of us with more extreme tastes are looking for a bit more oomph.

Inside Out 2 - 8/10

Another top notch effort from Pixar, who set the bar high with Toy Story in terms of films which work on several different levels with the message/tone changing depending on your time of life and have rarely disappointed since.

This is all about the trials and tribulations of emotional turmoil. It's visually stunning, heartfelt, witty and really engaging. Also prompted a great conversation with my 8 year old about the complexity of emotions and understanding how they work.

I said that she'd watch it in a completely different way when she was 10 years older, to which she responded:

"So will you daddy, you'll nearly be 50!"

Aye, cheers for that pet, let me get 40 out of the way first eh?!

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 9/10.

Can see why it got such mixed reviews, and read about people walking out after half an hour etc. The first 45 minutes with Chris Hemsworth hamming it up as Dr.Dementus were really bad, was so going to switch it off. I know its Mad Max and it's supposed to be daft at times. But once Anya Taylor-Joy took over as the older Furiosa the film was fantastic, really liked her in the Queen's Gambit. She had playing the sultry bad-ass down to a T. Best film I've seen for ages, better than Dune 2, despite the crappy start to it. Much better than Fury Road which was really just a fantastic spectacle to watch with little plot. This had a story and plot, superb effects and crazy machinery. Sure many will disagree, as you either like it or don't..
