The Evil Dead, the 2013 remake not the original.

Having not seen the original I can't say if this is any better or worse, but just watching it as a stand alone horror film it was a bit dull really.

I know there's not exactly much realism but I always find it funny that people who are trapped in a remote cabin can quickly come round to the fact that they're up against an evil supernatural force, and behave in a completely rational way.

Cynical me? Not in the slightest. 😂

War of the Worlds.

The Tom Cruise version.

What a L.O.B.

2/10.

I thought that one was really good, very much against my (low) expectations, not being a fan of Mr Cruise. It pretty much stuck to the book scene for scene. The restaging in modern day America worked well, with modern USA just as utterly powerless against the Martians as was Victorian England, the then superpower. Cruise didn't play the action hero, just an ordinary family man trying to survive, and it avoided any stupid heroics. I particularly liked him picking up his revolver from the cupboard for protection, but it turns out to be no use as he loses it unfired in the melee to get onto the ferry. A nice detail emphasising on a small scale the helplessness, and also an interesting and unconventional take on "Chekov's rifle". The only departure from the book was him having his family with him, but I think that helped the storytelling when done as a film, and didn't detract, as they resisted mawkish sentimentality

Anyhow I'd give it a creditable 7/10

I hated it the first time I saw it, but subsequent viewings have pretty much got me in agreement, although the end was a bit ridiculous.

I believe Rob Zombie was involved with the set design, which explains why it was so well done.

Poor Things - 8.5/10

Brilliantly weird without having to resort to being obviously shocking or insulting the audience. It's hard to make something so subtle, intelligent and engaging all at once.

A wonderful soundtrack and camera work keep it suitably unhinged and disorienting too, as does the timeless setting.

Always nice to have a reminder that Mark Ruffalo is a damn good actor too.

Killers of the Flower Moon. What a feckin bore fest. The only good thing in it is the actress that plays Molly, and a bit at the end with a radio broadcast, aside from that, dull as ditch water.

Watched that twice in the past couple of months, brilliant!
Not so brilliant, the new Napolean. Only got halfway through last night, god it drags .... will finish watching when I have the stamina.

Correct on both counts.

I did stay to the end for Napoleon, though I think the Mrs would have baled out. It was decidedly poor, and close to terrible
