Apparently it's better when you're not stoned I guess?

Brawl in Cell Block 99 - 3/10

(I'll save you the trouble of searching matticus, that's what I gave it years ago)

I couldn't find anywhere showing the new Godzilla film so I went with this. Still rubbish, and I don't understand why it's so well thought of, especially when people describe it as "grindhouse", which it really isn't.

One interesting discovery (not really, but I was surprised) came out of viewing though: Geno Segers is only an inch taller than me at 6'2", I thought he was absolutely gigantic based on Banshee

Love Actually wasn't that bad, actually - 6/10

There's way too much going on, and some of it really hasn't aged well, but it's fun enough if clichéd romance is your thing, and there's enough darkness and stupidity even if it isn't. Bill Nighy was great and Liam Neeson was actually believable in his role, as opposed to trying to convince as a hard-man.

Jesus, who's hacked Andy's account? 😂

While visiting family, she likes period stuff, B&W Films and Some Like It Hot (Marilyn Munroe 1959) was on in the background
What a load of old tosh.

Christmas Chronicles - 4/10

Kurt Russell claims he was "born to play Santa Claus" apparently, and he seemed to be enjoying himself. I spent most of it thinking about how one of my favourite actors could be in such rubbish, but then remembered he's been in worse over the years so there's that.

Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Clause was a nice touch, so I added a point for that.

P2 - 7/10

Minimalist and tense, kind of like a gory Die Hard. Nothing new, but well done as you'd expect from Alexandre Aja.

Did cause an argument about what constitutes a Christmas film:

"Babe, it's literally on set on Christmas Eve, there's a guy dressed as Santa and over half the soundtrack is festive. It's a Christmas film."

"No, they're meant to make you feel warm and happy. This doesn't."

"So my Christmas choices aren't Christmassy enough and my horror choices aren't gory enough? This is a conspiracy..."

We're going to see Elf tomorrow...

Crocodile Dundee was on telly yesterday. My wife watched it. I went and fixed some broken Christmas lights and then went out to the chippy. When I returned with chips it had finished. Thank goodness.

Over The Top.

A wonderful Sly Stallone epic with a plot by Shakespeare, directed by Kenneth Brannagh, and Stalline himself was clearly coached by Gielgud. The theme tune and incidental music by Bach was the cherry on top as far as I was concerned.

A masterpiece in every way, a favourite at Dignitas.

0/10.

It’s a great story of the under dog winning against the odds.
Who would guess that he wins the truck and his son in the end.

Went to see Wonka yesterday with jnr. Wasn't the greatest of movies. Think I was expecting a bit more. Not sure what though. The best scenes were with Hugh Grant as the Oompah Loompah but he wasn't in it enough.

We loved it. Did NOT know what to expect, which probably helped, just knew that with these writers and lead actor, it would never be much like the Gene Wilder film. Totally agree about Hugh Grant* stealing the show, though. Love him!

*stay for the credits!!!

[a lot of the fun was identifying the endless list of lesser-known British TV comedy actors, including about half the cast of Ghosts]

Elf - 6/10

Nowhere near as bad as I had feared, and I have a deep-seated dislike of almost everything Will "If I shout things will be funny" Farrell does. A couple of decent laughs, although it does seem to be a weird sort of modern blue-print for "holiday" films. Not that it doesn't borrow heavily from everything that's gone before it (that I've seen so far), but still.

Pleasingly, I was able to review it in the scathing style my good lady has used for my horror selections thus far:

"Well, a child is abandoned, lied to by his adopted parents and community, who ultimately ostracise him for being different. He's rejected by his actual father initially, gets hit by a car in a world he doesn't understand and is ultimately exploited by the publishing industry for commercial gain. Heartwarming stuff!"

Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny

Firstly my opinion here is not influenced by the dodgy CGI, I've seen worse and enjoyed it more!

This is absolute pants. Its a complete rehash of Raiders and Last Crusade except the Nazis seem even stupider than last time, the Americans even more and Indy's English lady friend is a complete loon who can't decide if she wants to help him or get rich depending on which scene she's in. The plot such that it is consists of trying to find this thing that does this other thing, but then it turns out and it doesn't but it's barely explained. Rocks fall, bad guys die, Indy Wins.
