Nobody (2021)

This is what IMDB says - A docile family man slowly reveals his true character after his house gets burgled by two petty thieves, which, coincidentally, leads him into a bloody war with a Russian crime boss.

Have you guessed that the docile guy is really an ex special forces/CIA type of person?

Formulaic action nonsense with the added bonus of Christopher Lloyd, of Back to the Future fame, as said hero's dad.

I doubt that I'll ever watch it again but it passed an otherwise empty ninety minutes, 5/10.

Covenant the new Guy Ritchie film 6/10
Nothing about it would make you think it's one of his films.Typical American war film, set in Afghanistan starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a Sargent on a mission to save his interpretor.Thats probally alI I need to tell you.In fact 6/10 might be too generous.

Zoltan - Hound of Dracula

Just like Dracula his manservant and dog are both vampires and one day a military exercise uncovers their graves, somehow the man and his dog escape and find out that Dracula has one remaining descendant living in LA, so off they go to find him.

It's a bit cack. 4/10.

The Long Good Friday.

It must be thirty years since I last watched this and it still easily beats all the modern Essex boys style British gangster films, usually starring Bill Murray or Craig Fairbrass, a definite classic.

And I must have spent the first twenty minutes saying, 'that's him, and that's him,' when I kept spotting faces that became regulars on British TV during the eighties and nineties.

8/10.

The theme tune is fantastic, as is the setting as I love films set in London before all the redevelopment.

I've watched 2 MCU films recently - Black Panther Wakanda Forever and Ant Man Quantumania.

Black Panther is awful, too long and too boring. Halfway through I realised I'd already watched it and had forgotten about it. Ant Man is much better, its very silly and that's why I enjoyed it more. The reviews for Ant Man where not good, but what do they know lol.

Despite the ostensibly banal subject matter (bank robberies in Texas), Hell or High Water turned out last night to be a fabulous noir with great lead performances by Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine and Ben Foster. Well directed, beautifully shot and some great lines - what's not to like?

Reminded me a little bit of Terrence Malick's Badlands.

John Wick 4 (bought on Amazon Prime)
RUBBISH. Critics like it and we liked the other three. But this is about 80% fight scenes with barely any plot, dialogue or character development. Fight scenes are so long and ridiculous that I almost fell asleep during one of them. 3/10

Covenant was OK - watched last night. Typical American shoot up the Taliban stuff. Sisu was OK - A Lapland miner takes revenge on some Nazi's.

Renfield - definitely watch this, very gory, but funny. One of Nicolas Cage's better films in recent years.

A normal John Wick movie then.

Yup, sounds normal to me - looking forward to 4, wish we'd seen it in the cinema!

Meanwhile, a change of scene - belied by the title - Seven Psycopaths. Like a Coen Brothers story, adapted by Tarantino, filmed by Wes Anderson.
8/10, really fun, quirky movie,
(Has Colin Farrell ever done an accent? He seems to play Oirish in EVERY film, no matter the genre, setting ... )
((Very bizarre to see Sam Rockwell back-to-back after Jojo Rabbit - totally different roles, but does he ever play a regular guy??))

The franchise might benefit from a weekly tv series, a cartoon and some non-cannonical offshoot movies featuring some of the minor characters, or fleshing out The Continental (do the cleaning ladies get paid in gold coins ?)
The world needs added Wick.

Indeed, both Charon and Winston I would guess have some great back stories. (Though the actor who played Charon died earlier this year)

I was watching The Gentlemen recently with friends. When we got to the finale I recognised what was happening and told them what would happen next. A clear homage to the LGF ending...

I have recorded TLGF to watch with them this week.
