Thoughtful first contact movie.

I’m a little surprised at the rave reviews, but it is good. Nice, proper sci fi, easy to tell it come from a genuine sci fi writer too.

Some time ago a whole heap of crap appeared on Amazon Prime. I could never be bothered to find out why they smear this poop all over their premium service, but evidently they are still doing it.

This particular turd apparently is a full length movie. That some chubby friends got a camcorder and bothered to make this worthless drivel isn’t much of a surprise but how it got on Amazon Prime is.

Null/10. Thereby destroying the universe.

Baywatch.
Sort of like Scooby Doo, but with tits, willies and gratuitous use of the word 'fark'. Brief appearances by the Hoff looking wrinkly, and Pam Anderson looking more plastic than a 1980's Chevy Corvette.
You know how the BBC 'lost' all those Dr Who episodes? Well give all copies of this to the guy in charge of that.
It passed the time doing physio exercises over a couple of nights, and to be fair it spent 90% of the time taking the mike out of itself, which is admirable.

Valkyrie.

WWII drama telling the truish story about a Nazzy colonel who's arm fell off, so he and his chums tried to assassinate Hitler. Tom Cruise gives it his all as the heronof the piece, and the production, costumes etc are lavish. Not A1, but still decent.

7/10.

Iron Sky.

Visually spectacular and very funny black comedy/drama/historical/war/political flick, based around the premise that at the end of the war the surviving Nazzies fled to the moon, and have now decided to come back and invade Earth.

At times dramatic, at others funny, but a strangely enjoyable cocktail of genres. Well worth a loomk and I'm surprised it stayed below the radar as it has.

Grand Prix.

Sexy sixties period piece following a fictitious season in F1. Sex, violence, gore, and some stunning visual shots. This film pioneered the idea of point of view cameras in vehicles, and the F3000 cars dressed up as F1 motors look and sound authentic.

An understated performance from James Garner, who also did his own driving - word was that he was a natural, and was well able to physically manhandle the very demanding cars of the time and was good enough to have been a pro had he so chosen, but beyond doing it to make the filming look authentic it never interested Garner. Contrast this with McQueen who loved his cars, but was actually nothing special behind the wheel.

It does drag on though, and the protracted romantic and domestic scenes serve to show the off track stresses, but do go on a bit.

Nevertheless, a classic, and a must if you're a true afficionado of cinema.

I’ve got to admit I’m struggling to accept this - were you sober? I’ve never been brave enough to put it on without being at least half cut.

Prometheus.

I love sci-fi and have seen it at least once before.
The basis of the film is good (IMO of course) a prequel to the Alien genre, excellently portrayed and believable 'engineer' aliens, but its' spoiled by the predictable rag tag of misfits, unstable and plain dumb crew that so many sci to films seem to have.

One thing confused me. The engineers created humans, then they attempted to sow the seeds of destruction and in doing so brought about their own demise. But one of the lead crew of Prometheus distinctly said...they created life, then wanted to destroy it but changed their minds.
Did I miss something ?...i didn't see that ? In what way did they change their minds and then why did the last alien immediately set about going to Earth to let loose the deadly phials. Maybe I need to watch it again :smile:

I thought they had seeded life inc. humans but then changed their minds, and so were wiping out what they had created.

With the bioweapons on that planet.

But the weapons destroyed them before they deployed them on earth.

Heat, starring Al Pacino as the cop pursuing the ruthless professional career criminal played by Robert De Niro.

Violent and a bit predictable, as many such films follow a similar plot, especially the ending, but you couldn't really ask for 2 better actors for the main characters IMHO, and they both play their parts superbly - what a cool dude De Niro is, and Pacino's characters convince me every time. Quite lengthy, but no complaints about spending just under 3 hours of my life watching this, great stuff.
